C6 as a DD?

Corvettes have been my daily drivers for the past 30 years...that should say it all. My new 2004 was one for 145000 miles. My latest baby, a brand new 2012 GS is one also. I've had it three months and have 6K on it already.

I wouldn't want to drive mine to work everyday, to many morons backing into cars in our parking lot not to mention people opening doors into the car next to them.
Some parking lots are not Corvette friendly.

Plus, if you plan on DD, make sure you budget for new tires more often and more maintenance costs that arise with a DD.

I daily drive my 2008 c6 everyday here in the northeast.great vehicle. I recommend a stock or near stock vehicle for a daily driver. 10 to 12 k miles a year for a total right now over 60 k miles.
I would mention my last car was a built z06 with cam, headers and gears and as weekend toy. When I made it my daily driver it was a bitch to keep running right. Hence my suggest for very very light mods on a c6 or z06.
Get the z06 stock if you want more performance than the 190 mph base coupe.
Around 29 grand for ls3 z51 coupe and 40 for a z06.
Good luck

I am on my fourth Vette (see below signature), and they have all been my daily driver. In 16 years I have put a total of 220,000 miles on my daily drivers. I can't imagine not getting to drive it every day.

I have a Taurus I DD, my C6 gets weekend duty when it's nice. Driving a stick to me is a pain in the a$$ so I'm good with driving it here and there. The Taurus is easier to drive plus I don't have to be so careful. If I drove my vette everyday I'd get sick of it fast.

I've daily driven a 92, an 01 Z06, a 91 ZR-1 andan 03 vert. While I won't be driving my new '13 GS every day, I will drive it every day that's nice. It is by far a better daily driver car than any of the previous Vettes.

Using my 2012 GS as a daily driver without issue. As long as you watch out on your approach to a driveway, etc your fine. It has great all around view for traffic. Much better then my 350z. The main downside is you feel like you need to be extra defensive about where you park. To many people don't care about there own car let alone yours.
Parking anxiety
Careful on drive ways, speed bumps, front cement curbs that can also damage radiator supports and take out front plate, side cement curbs for curb rash.
We have the crappiest roads here so with these low profile tires you have to be careful of wheel damage/bent rims.
Just can't hit those bumps on the road hard that you can't see like on a regular car or higher profile muscle/pony car.

My car is a DD but it is only a coupe. I have heard that the Z06 is not as user friendly as a DD, but one day I sure as hell hope to find out.
As mentioned previously this is an awesome car and built to be driven. Why not have fun? The only negative issue have I have experienced with the Corvette is that I have more issue when over-taking another vehicle of being side-swiped. It has yet to happen, but because it sits so much lower than most vehicles I guess people changing lanes just don't see you very well.
Arizona probably has more than the average share of crappy drivers so I know that is part of it, but that is the only thing I have run into driving my Corvette every day.

DRL's may help to be seen but have to be careful of road debris, rock chips on body and windshield since Corvette is alot lower. I have seen anything and everything from building materials, plywood, sheet rock, furniture to the kitchen sink on freeways.

While I was deployed I've entertained the idea of trading my 2008 Duramax for a built C6 or modded ZO6 depending on price. I want to know how many of you daily drive your cars and what your thoughts on them are? I had a '00 Camaro SS built to the hilt and it wasn't a good daily driver but my commute is 12 miles round trip to work mostly interstate.
You can find really nice C6s for $25-40k and Z06s for $45-60k. You like fast cars, get a Z06 and don't mess with it too much. If you hate the idea of shifting in traffic get the A6. There really aren't any bad choices.

3rd 'Vette here. 1st was a C3 ... hated it, girls loved it .. that was important then. 2nd was a '07 C6, loved it and drove it every single day. 3rd is a '12 C6 and drive it a lot, almost daily. The golf cart gets more action on the shorter trips. But I have never had any issues about 'Vettes as DD's. All 3 bought new, warranties are most important to me. Buy 'em, drive 'em.

I'm daily driving mine, only 8 miles round trip per day.
Honestly,
1) anxiety about where to park in the lot, i.e. parking further away or hunting for a good spot, is a pain for me.
2) anxiety about keeping it looking pretty - when you daily drive it - is a bit of a pain, but my car is black and I like to keep it shiny.
3) it's aggravating driving a fast car slow, i.e. when you are in a line of cars and trudging along at 20 mph in stop and go.
For daily driving the route that I drive, I enjoyed my Miata a lot more, I felt I was a nimble rabbit racing around corners rather than a caged beast restrained.

I scrape everyday on the way out of my driveway and back in...plus multiple scrapes in the work parking structure. Doing the math over the almost 3 years I've had the car yields at least 1500 scrapes. The bottom of the splitter is a little bit chewed up (and I did incur a bit of damage hitting something once), but it seems like an easily replaceable part down the road. Either way, it's not something anybody notices and the rest of the car is in great shape.
I guess if we're sharing damage, I've found on my GS I get the most rock chip damage to the paint on the bottom of the mirrors and right around the rear brake cooling ducts. I hear people putting clear bras over the nose, but my nose has absolutely no rock chip type damage at all (knock wood!). For the rock chips that I get, I just touch them up with a paint pen every 6 months or so. I know they're there, but you can't see the repairs at all.
