Default Labor cost to replace Harmonic Balancer

Very reputable shop quoted $700 (7 hours) for labor to replace the HB and belts. Got same price from a local GM dealer. Seem reasonable?

If this price includes the new parts, then yes, very reasonable.

Still not bad, it's a big job to get at it. I believe you'll also need an alignment afterwards.

What HB are you going to install? Check out these two items - http://store.katechengines.com/ati-s...ts-v-p230.aspx & http://store.katechengines.com/bille...sioner-p2.aspx Good luck with the install, also now would be a good time to do a cam install so that you can save on the labor cost.

Do it yourself. It is not that bad...
400.00 in parts and fluids.
70.00 for an alignment.

hours/labor may be same betw. indie and dealer, but generally indie shops are a little less per hour. yours doesn't seem to be.

I had my HB replaced at a local Chevy dealer (who is also our Corvette Club Sponsor). The total job including parts and labor...$724.00...

Had a stock HB replacement at my Chevy dealer for under $600 with new belts and an alignment on an 07 out of warranty. I was able to get GM assistance because it is a known issue which saved me $600-$800 more. It is not uncommon to cost $1100 -$1400 for this GM ******** that has been going on since the first C6's to the present.

I just had mine done on Tuesday at my local Chevy dealer. The "book" hours were 5.3 at whatever the standard labor rate is. My car is still under warranty so it only cost me my dedictible.

I think the HB failure is total bs on GM's part. I don't care if you're in or out of warranty, you shouldn't have to pay anything for the repair. It's an integral part of the engine, not a bolt on like the power steering pump or the alternator or the AC compressor. I can understand a failure with an accessory part, but, not the HB. It's obviously GM's fault to begin with, using a HB that's doomed to failure in such a short time.
I've had plenty of vehicles, mostly Chevy's, where the HB wasn't even a thought. No problems at all, nada! Come on GM, man up about the faulty Vette part.
Sorry, just my rant for today!
