Default Tough Choice... What Would You Do?

So I'm about to buy a 2013 to tide me over for 2-3 years until I order my perfect C7. I have an '02 that I've loved, but with 57K miles, I feel like I'm just waiting for my first really expensive repair. Also, "Because race car."

So here are my choices, both 6 speed manual 2013s:

2LT Coupe
-Night Race Blue
-Chrome wheels
-Dual Mode exhaust
-Titanium/Ebony interior with embroidered headrests
-$47,700+$2,000 shipping=$49,700

1LT GS
-Cyber Gray
-That's it. I think maybe there are the blacked out "Grand Sport" badges or something. Maybe a free "decorative decal" of the dealer's logo. And a manual.
-$47,300, 2 hours from my house

To be clear, I LOOOOVE the GS, but am aware the tires will last about a week. It also seems the GS has better resale for my upgrade in 2016, especially considering the lack of a $2K shipping cost, which is just gone once it's spent.

That being said, NRB is only available in 2013, and it's "tasty," as the young people say. Plus I'd really like a HUD and the NPP option. Don't really care about the nav system. I'm a pilot, so I'm used to not knowing where I am. That's what throttles are there to solve, right?

There you have it. WWYD?

I'd probably just drive the C5 and wait for the C7 for 2 years. But that's just me.

For me, I would choose the Grand Sport. Hand built motor plus suspension, wheel, tire and brake upgrades from the coupe. HUD can both be added later with little issue. NPP, aftermarket or oem, can also be added later with a little more effort. And $2,000 of your purcase price is not throw away shipping money. Likely better trade/resale down the road.

no question, good choices and '13 is last, and arguably best of the gen. but still, it's a lotta dough. for that reason, if you're sure you will get a 7 a few years down the road, saving $45K+ can't be a bad idea. jmo.

Well...

I would go w/ the GS, purely out of liking the look of the widebody better.

The 2LT buys you the nav system, Hud, plus the other cars NPP. You can add HUD & NPP, probably around 2K for OEM, installed. You can add chrome wheels (OEM) installed for around 1K or less - several guys have sold low mileage ones for 500-700.

Obviously the stereo can be replaced w/ something much better than the 50year old stock NAV.

If you like to mod, i would get the GS and mod it the way you want.

My 2 cents...

If you really plan on getting a C7 in a few years, I would keep the one you have. With the depreciation your going to take on either one of them, you could pay for that possible big repair on the one you have with money left over. JMO

Interesting... More "wait for the C7"s than I would have expected. Still, I'm planning on buying the '13, and I'm okay with the depreciation. I just want to 1) minimize it and 2) enjoy the car.

I totally get the idea of waiting it out, but 11 years is long enough.

If it were me I'd take the GS unless you can't live without the HUD and Nav. Save yourself the $2k and drive the hell out of it for the next 3yrs. You can always add the HUD and install a better radio than what the factory offers. Good Luck.

Personally, I'd look for a nice deal on a slightly used '12 or '11. If those missing features are important to you (they would be to me), I'd find a lightly used one rather than have to add them after the fact.

Well then, tough call. I have a 2lt coupe and dont know if I would want to trade it for a 1lt GS. I do like the looks of a GS, but when your'e in the drivers seat, the creature comforts of the 2lt are a plus...

I got a 13 GS in November at first looking at the base coupe. I was at the same point as you and told the salesman hey I am going to trade in 2 years for a C7 out of the 100 cars you have what is the best for resale?

He picked a NRB GS saying it could be a one year color, which is now is for a C6 but carries over to the C7 and the GS is way more popular.

My impression is folks are paying 10Kish to covert a regular car to a wide body, at the time Kerbeck had 100s of GS in stock and 5 regular cars.

If you got to have one get a GS.

But I'm with a lot of the folks....keep what ya have and you'd be money ahead.

I'm a air traffic controller who always wanted to be a fighter pilot so the HUD was absolutely necessary (so I kinda feel like I'm in an F-16) and thus I understand you needing it being a pilot But I would keep your current ride or go with the GS...knowing that you will be buying a C-7 I would go wide body...think the resale would be better.

That 2LT NRB vette would be perfect were it a GS. dang, so close.

I'd still opt for the cyber gray 1LT GS.

I have the nav in mine and never use it. I could not be without the widebody...jmo

Good luck, and its a win/win either way.

the 2lt coupe. they can't give the 1lt gs away. and why would you buy a car just to put money into it when you'll be getting rid of it a couple years down the road. besides, i agree what the one member said, keep what you have now.

I don't know, HUD was a major selling point for me. I wouldn't buy without it. The exhaust you can change any time. The Bose sound system was also worth it IMO.

After careful consideration.......toss a coin.

Heads it's the coupe, tails it's the GS.

Personally it was a C5 that attracted me into vette ownership.

I'd wait for the C7. Your C5 is a great automobile why not save a bundle and wait.
