Default 08 Z06 trans/diff in 05 base

Picked up a z06 transmission and diff for my 05 base. From what Ive read its a direct bolt in swap. As far as the cooler lines go, that run to the radiator. Is it worth it to get a z06 radiator or can I just plug the lines on the transmission and diff?

I think there is more to it that a direct bolt in. I think you have to use a C6 rear cradle and also extend one of the exhaust pipes that go over the axle.

You've read wrong, it's not a bolt in swap. Search a little deeper and you'll find a number of threads that explain the difference in mounting/brackets/splines, etc.

No sir I read correctly. It's a direct bolt in swap minus notching the torque tube for to cooler line. I talked to rpm

I think you should check further. The differential on the '05 is a one of a kind as is the crossmember it bolts to. There are guys on the Forum that have formed brackets to be able to use a later diff. on the '05 crossmember. According to all the photos and posts the '05 crossmember won't accept any diff. but the '05.

Now; If you are changing the crossmember/suspension as well as the differential/transmission then yes, it will work.

Do you have any links? I spoke to rpm twice and both times was told it was a direct bolt in application :/

I do fabrication so making a bracket won't be hard but wasn't in the plans haha

The crossmembers are the same in all the C6's. (except C6Z is magnesium)

The '05 "crossmember issues" mentioned above are a result of mounting a C5 diff into the '05.

The reason guys put a C5 diff in the '05 is because the '05 diff uses the same/shared C5 bolt pattern/flange where it mounts to the trans.

If the OP is putting a complete C6Z trans and diff into his '05 car... it is a direct swap and a non-issue.

The only change on my 05 car with RPM Z diff was a rebuilt trans with the correct main shaft. Bolted right in.

Looks like my memory failed. I would have sworn that the guys doing the '05 diff. changes back in '06 & '07 were using C6 diffs and had to change mounting points/brackets. Search only takes me back to '11 so I'll have to accept the fact that they were all talking about using C5 Z06 units. Must have been a major cost difference to use the C5 diffs instead of the C6 units if the parts swapped easily.

Good luck with your swap.

The C5 Z06 diffs are a fraction of the cost of C6 Z thus the reason for cradle mods and was one of those things some chose to reduce cost but was one never considered by most.

Got everything in about a week ago. Decided to throw on a z06 clutch and found out my pilot bearing has been seized and destroyed the shaft, and the rear main seal was leaking. Feels like a brand new car now. Also threw a set of long tubes on woohoo

Awesome!
I had the same problem with the pilot bearing seizing up and wearing the shaft. You buy a whole new driveshaft or just replace the input shaft - I just replaced the input shaft and bearing, everything else looked good. I'm also swapping out my tran/diff with an RPM Level V T56 and level 2 diff setup. Did you ever plug the cooler lines or order a new rad?

My friend had an extra setup (shaft, driveshaft, torque tube, etc) from a c6 z so I swapped it out and have him some money. We needed up bender the hard line and putting it back into the tranny. I'm going to put on a cooler eventually. The swap just set me back a little.

Free parts are priceless - just like friends...

Did you have to do anything with the Shift to Reverse sensor?
