Dreamed for years...purchased in minutes...1st time Vette owner
Hello Everyone,
Like many of ya'll, I've dreamed of owning a vette since I was an 8 year-old. Well, today I finally pulled the trigger.
2008 C6 Vert, Velocity Yellow, with Cashmere Interior (Auto, NPP, 3LT, F55, Nav, Performance Axle), 38k miles, absolutely mint (seriously, not a scratch or ding on it).
My real search started last spring when I was finally at a comfort point in my career where having a 3rd car wasn't really a big deal financially. The problem was that I was living in Minneapolis, MN, and didn't have an extra stall to keep the toy in. Even with that obstacle, I had a pretty good deal worked out on an 08 3LT Vert back in February (an ideal time to find a Vette bargain in Minnesota), numbers were at $30,950 + TTL, and there were 37k miles on the Vette. All was good until I realized it had been a rental early in its life....I know what I would do if I rented a Vette for a day or two. Needless to say, I ran, NOT walked the other direction. This Vette also didn't have Z51, F55, Nav, NPP....options that I'd prefer to have for enjoyment and resale. It also wasn't yellow (it was silver).
Over the summer I accepted a position in my company that relocated us to the Dallas, TX area, an area much more accomodating of a 3rd stall garage queen, and hence purchased a home with a 3rd stall....my wife just couldn't figure out why I was ruling out any homes that only had a 2-stall!
The past few months have seen hours on end go by trying to find the right Vette at the right price. With the Dallas market just not giving me the options I was looking for. I expanded my search a couple weeks ago and late last week saw a fresh trade-in at a dealer in "luxury row" in North Scottsdale. Coincidentally I was coming down here this weekend for a good friend's wedding.
I started a dialogue with the dealer on the history of the Vette (1-owner trade-in, lifelong AZ car, routine maintenance, etc). We started to negotiate before I even arrived in town late last night. Like a lot of people, I was second guessing whether or not I should pull the trigger....there was a sign yesterday, actually two of them!
1) While on my way to a meeting in the Dallas area I was working through the financials in my head trying to decide whether to finance or pay mostly cash, or even just pay cash outright....I was sitting at a stoplight and I look directly to my right....there it was, a late model '08-'09 yellow vert, just staring at me! How could that not be a sign?
2) My second meeting of the day was a lunch meeting and I met my client at the restaurant. Little did I know that he had recently purchased a toy of his own. As we were walking out of the restaurant towards our cars what did he walk to....a 2011 yellow Vette GS! I was sold....the deal was done (mentally).
So I caught the 9:15pm flight to PHX last night (which ended up being delayed over 4 hours due to weather in both DFW and PHX), arrived at the resort where the wedding is to take place at about 4am this morning....what do you know, the resort is directly accross the street from Luxury Row in North Scottsdale. The wedding party golf outing was cancelled this morning, so I went and bought a toy instead....
In person I realized this truly was the one. Absolutely perfect condition, service records, every accessory worked, realtively new rubber, rear brakes and rotors just replaced, and a price I couldn't say no to. The test drive confirmed the condition, although I did scare the crap out of the young female sales rep that went on the test drive with me. Roads are extremely wet due to 1-2" of rain overnight, first left turn out of the parking lot punching it a bit kicked the back end out a bit.....
$30,250 + $750 shipping = $31,000 + TTL
Now I'm usually not a warranty buyer, but I just couldn't pass up the deal. Of course the finance guy came back with a first pass, 4yr 50k platinum (exclusionary) price of about $2,000, which actually was pretty competitive. I am in sales as well, and have purchased over 30 cars since 2004, I feel I have a pretty good grasp on the "game".
My response, "I'm not opposed to giving you a profit and I am interested in the coverage. So here's what I'd like you to do, give me a number with a $100 profit margin for yourself, and if I like it I will take it, if not, this discussion is over". 4yr 50k for $1543, $100 deductible. Just can't say no to about $375/yr and the peace of mind it brings with all of the electronic goodies, water pump failures, and other known issues on these Vettes and other modern cars.
So it worked out to $31,000 + $1543 = $32,543 + TTL
I think it is a smoking good deal given the options and condition of the vehicle. While KBB and Edmunds don't usually mean jack...they both had this vehicle between $37k and $40k on the retail side.
So now the million dollar question...actually 2....
1) when will the vehicle arrive at my home back in Dallas (hopefully still MINT)
2) what mod first
Short Mod List:
1) Hate to do it, but Texas just started aggressively ticketing the front plate law Sept 1st.....Top Flight Reproduction here I come.
2) My lunch meeting yesterday had the remote for the M2W exhaust MOD, the moment he hit that button sold me on the $90 upgrade that makes the NPP sing!
3) Tint front windows and convertible glass.
Excited to be a part of the forum guys and gals....sorry to ramble, but I'm as excited as a professional athlete in a strip club!!! Make it rain!

You will love the Velocity Yellow(08) with the Cashmere interior and top. The top is a bit of a pain to take care of. Suggestion get a horse hair brush with the clean kit called RAGG TOPP made by Hartz sold at the museum(and at forum sponsers) for the top. I didn't leave my top down once we were home and in the garage as you get wrinkles that don't go away.
I help our club members with their car purchases (four in the last 6 Months)and a club member who I was helping find a car said I heard you had a 08 Velocity yellow vert and took one look at it and said I want it. Oh MY.
We bought a 13 G.S. Crystal Red Tintcoat and it is awesome. The next one will be Velocity yellow. :You made an smart choice buying the 08 and Velocity Yellow. It may have been your first vette but you hit it
Enjoy

Thanks for the heads-up! I would have preferred a black top, but the summer heat here in TX (and AZ for the prior owner) probably make the cashmere top a smart move.
Was already thinking about how I plan to keep her clean....no more automatic car washes, well except for the daily driver (2012 Genesis Sedan).

Thanks for sharing. I bought mine sight unseen (plenty of pictures and I had the option to back out of the deal) and have never regretted it. I drove 900 miles to Houston to purchase it, and drove it home. It has been and still is an excellent car, and was everything as advertised.
Enjoy your new vette!
