How do I get the wife to drive our Vette
#22
My wife has no interest in driving the Vette, or the Challenger, although she has driven the Challenger a few times.
She loves driving a stick, so I think once she's been around it awhile, she won't mind driving it too much.

Sounds to me that she realizes the car is special to you and therefor she is reticent about driving it because she would never want to be in the position of damaging something that you love. That's my situation. I think my wife realizes that my Vette is just about the only possession I have that I truly care about. The fact that almost 3 years since I got it and I still do the weekly washes and daily detail spray routine is a complete surprise to her.
My suggestion would be to let her know that yes the car is special to you....but part of what makes is special to you would be to see her enjoy it too.

Mine drove ours once or twice. I think something must've happened when she was out that scared her because she just all of a sudden quit having any interest in driving it. She hasn't driven it in about 2.5 years and has no desire to drive it. I'm glad she doesn't want to drive it. I don't see a problem.

On the ride home from BG, wife would not drive at all, so, I had to "endure" the entire 900 miles in the left seat. Only after being back home for a couple of weeks did she make a short trip to the grocery store. Well, now...she loves driving it and just drove to Austin to visit our granddaughter - 146 miles. I sure miss "my" Vette.

We went out for a drive on the 4th. I always drive and she likes riding along and taking pictures. This time I got out on road that is used very little with lots of turns and dips (vulture mine road for the locals). When I got to the end of the road I turned around and stopped. I got out and said your driving back.
You should have seen the smile on her face when she pressed on the gas in third.
She has driven a stick before and didn't do to bad. A couple of missed shifts. She really liked it but said it feels like a mans car. It takes strength to turn the car while shifting. I explained that it's best to do your shifting before the corner.

When she drives it; you're not. Go back and review the "Man Rules." If you really want her to drive a Vette, buy her her own.

My husband (before we were married) had a C5 and I felt the same way. He use tell me all the time to drive it. I wouldn't because I was scared of something happening to his car. He would tell me it's just a car.
Never did drive it. After we were married he bought me my C6. The first time I drove a vette was the teat drive before driving it home. Still was scared but when I had to drive it 120miles home I got the smile from hell and fell in love. Was still afraid of damaging it for along time but I had to realize its a car meant to be driven.
Take your wife some where that has a smooth road that the air dam won't scrape on(so she does freak out) and put her behind the wheel. A neighborhood, empty parking lot, just some place with out a lot of people.
Good luck and I hope she learns to love driving it.
Or just go buy her one of her own. She picks the color and then she doesn't have to worry about hurting yours

Go out one evening and have a few too many adult beverages, then she might feel obligated. Actually a good place to allow her to drive it would be in a cemetery, that way you still have to follow roadways, without much traffic.

Its simple, just tell her that your "girlfriend" has no problem driving it so why does she.

My wife won't drive it
My wife also won't drive the vert because she is waiting for me to put the first scratch. She does not want to hear forever that she put the first scratch on it. That's ridiculous, no body is alive to hear that forever!

It's simple....
Just buy her one that's just hers!
That's what I did!
She hates to even drive "in" my C5 (she feels it just swallows her up - shes 5'6" 115 lbs), but the C6 is the perfect size and the way the C6 sits taller with a lower hood it's great!
But seriously, have her drive it alone without you, and if she still feels she does not want to drive it, be fine with that.
Remember, when married, you can either be right or happy, but usually not both!
