C6 vs. C7
#42
At this point I'm going straight to the C8. Don't care for the C7 looks, increased weight, cylinder deactivation etc but I do respect the car and realize that it many ways it is a major step forward from the C6.
I might consider a C7 if I could get one in a fire sale like I got my '13.

I was never a Corvette fan and never thought once about owning one. Then the C6 debuted and I was absolutely blown away. As subjective as this is I felt they finally "got it" at least in the way I liked my sports cars. It has great lines and doesn't overdue it with ports, vents, and other pieces. I got the convertible as soon as it became available. My reaction to the C7 takes me back to the pre-C6 days for the most part. The profile is nice but the rest of the car is exactly what I don't like about sports cars. I am also not one for the "it will grow on you". A sports car in particular is a passion and not something one should have to take their time getting to know and like. If I am not immediately in love, the relationship will never really work. No question the bang for the buck is vastly in favor of the C7 versus other sports cars but it still isn't cheap. If I were in the market right now I'd probably look at another car I felt I'd never own which is the new Cayman S. Over-priced, but something I was surprised I liked upon first view. I cannot say of the C7 even after 100+ viewings. Regardless, I am sure it will sell well and there will be many who absolutely love it. I'll wait to see what's next.

I thought this interview with Ed Welburn V.P. of Design was very telling. At 2:30 he addresses the "Camaro" tail lamps and at 4:12, he addresses the target market.
I respect all the deep thought process, design, upgrades, hard work, and most of all, having the intestinal fortitude to make a major design departure in the creation of the C7, which you seldom see in corporate board rooms.
Whether that risk will lead to success, we'll probably have to wait a couple of years to find out. People are naturally resistant to change. On the other hand would you design a BMW that doesn't have it's signature twin grill?

Proud owner of a 2013 GS here. No desire for the C7. Then again I never have a desire to have anything new right away: car, phone, tv, The C7 is all new, there will be bugs, count on it! I'll wait & see how the widebody C7 looks many years from now & enjoy my badazz widebody C6 the whole time..

Everyone is keeping their C6 just like when the C6 came out with the exposed headlights, everyone was keeping their C5.
Does not matter, most people will like the C7 it will be a success and be honest many who say I am keeping my C6 I hate the look of the C7 can not afford a new one.

I don't think it'll be a flop at all. They will sell plenty of them. It's just not for me! My '11 GS only has 2500 miles on it so I'll keep it for a long time! Like I said in an earlier post, I don't like any of the GM vehicles coming out and will be buying Ford/Lincoln from here on out when it's time to buy my everyday vehicles. I only need one sportscar and my GS will be around for quite awhile!!

I went out and bought a GS when I saw the C7 reveal on TV- it really didn't do anything for me and there were/are some great deals to be found on C6s. But after going to the bash and 60th events at the Natl Corvette Museum and seeing the car in person it has grown on me a bit. The rear bumper looks fine to me, and the interior/seats are a step up (the seats are REALLY good), and I might even get used to the skinny tires. The car really looks a lot better in person.
That said, I'm glad I got one of the last C6 GS cars, I love it- it just needs seats or seat mods to be perfect.......and some Michelin SS tires.

I would have no problem affording a C7. Paid cash for my C6 and if I wanted a C7 I would do the same. But I simply don't like the looks of the C7 (except the front end) and really don't care for the interior the dash is awful and the only thing on the inside I like are the seats.
The whole mess looks way to much like an Asian import (Kia or Hyundai). GM should have hired these guys to promote the C7.
