Does a new 427 1SC Convertible make a good touring car

Thanks for the input. I wasn't sure if the dry sump system would be an added headache or if the 1SC suspension would be as tame as the GS. All-in-all I am still leaning toward the 427 but wanted to hear a few 427 convertible owners' opinions on taking 3,000 mile trips in one.
Kingspoke, I do like that color combination. Not many of those are still out there.

If you like Inferno Orange, and you could locate one, you would have 1 of only 17 made!
Check out Boardwalk, a forum dealer, he has some hard to beat prices.

traded in our '13 GS 4LT 60th Anniv coupe with 490 miles on it for a 427 60th Anniv ..... same white with the stripe package, blue interior...... best decision..... had to own the "427" once in our 9 Corvette history. The 427 is a one year package as the Vert, 6 speed C6.... Love it. Very happy I made the switch. this is our 4th C6. All have been 6 speeds, so no auto/6sp issues with us. As a bonus, it's got the Michelin's rather than Goodyear tires. This is the first Vert we've owned since our 1965 Roadster.

If you are planning on a long trip, most of your miles will be highway miles so a manual gearbox shouldn't be much of a drawback.
As for comfort, the wife and I drove our 427 from New Jersey to South Florida. It was a fantastic trip that we took our time with and had many enjoyable stops. We also had enough room for all of our bags and supplies.
I was faced with the same decision as you, a GS or $3K more for a 427. The only difference in my situation was that I made my decision in less than 3 seconds.

Traded in my 2011 GS Vert for a Night Race Blue 427 Vert
Love the 427 engine and really like the Michelin tires on the 427 vs the Crappy Goodyears on the GS. Much quieter and ride much better.
427 Vert is a single year option
Both my Vettes and my Camaro as a DD were purchased from Tommy Jr at MacMulkin
He still has a large inventory. Give him a call

Thank you...... took a bunch of pics just before sunset.
Another user friendly feature of the 427 Vert for a "touring" ride is the fact that you can get about double the trunk space with the top UP, and unsnap the partition which then gives you the space usually taken up by the top. When you get to your hotel, or destination, remove your stuff and you got your top space back.
I find the Vette extremely comfortable for long rides.

I bought my 1sb 427 in crystal red metallic last summer from macmaukin in new hampshire. I flew from so. cal, picked it up and drove it home to cali. an incredible trip, car was very comfortable, mileage initially was about 24 mpg but improved as the car broke in and as I learned to keep my foot out of it and ended up with just under 28 mpg. Not bad for a convertible 427! Route 66 through Arizona was the best part but thats another story! The michelin tires are a big improvement over the goodyears that my Z06 has. Get the 427, and no comparison with the LS3 that the GS has.

Since you aready have a Corvette for around town, don't buy the 427 without at least test driving a CTS V. Another good choice for touring around the country in comfort.

The pricing is here. Just click on what ever model and options you want and the total will be at the bottom of the spreadsheet.

Only a 3k difference between the two then I would get the 427.
I traded in a 2011 gs vert for my 427 and I did the buyers tour, first start on the line, museum on the GS. It was hard to let the GS go but the extra power, upgraded seats, etc was worth it to me in the end.

Ok, let me add that 1SC is just an interior option for the 427. It's the same as 4LT interior option on the other C6s. If you get a manual transmission in the GS it will have a dry sump system also. If the GS has magnetic ride control it's suspension is pretty much the same as the 427. All 472s come with magnetic ride control.
No experience with the 427 but the GS 4lt convertible is a great touring car - just getting ready for a 4100 mile trip through Banff, Glacier, Bryce and Zion.
