Default Sunvisor vanity mirror hinge fix with videos

the cover to the drivers side vanity mirror broke at one of the hinges. I assumed I could just take off the whole mirror assembly and glue the hinge and I would be all set. What I was not aware of is that the mirror is fastened to the sun visor with dainty plastic posts that are melted on the back, so they are impossible to remove without breaking pretty much all of them. So I was left with a decision to try to fix what I have or spend 2-3 hundred on a new sun visor. I am not opposed to spending money on my car, but I gotta draw the line somewhere. Below are videos of how I chose to reattach the mirror assembly. I used .029 brass wire which is roughly .75 mm, if that's how you measure things, but I am sure you could just get utility wire from lowes or home depot, I have some but it was too thick for what I wanted, and I am a toolmaker at a jewelry chain shop so I just bought 3 dollars worth of wire. I will say that I tried to take off the sunvisor but I did not have any success. I researched how to, but sometimes experience tells you that your pushing too hard and will likely break something.

I will admit that the pigs putty is a little ugly... I don't believe it to be necessary, but my buddy thought that it would not hurt and I am the only one that will ever see it. I may end up just breaking the putty off but I don't know. I also realize that this is not ideal, but rather making the best of a ugly situation, and in the end I will end up saving on a new visor

There are a lot of C6 owners who have this problem.

Thanks for sharing.

I just fixed the pasenger side vanity mirror using this concept. Didn't have the wire but used small tie wraps (cable ties) instead and it worked perfectly......thanks again Black.z51.c6 !!!!!!!

I bought a c6 yesterday and the broken (gone) cover was keeping the light onn and the previous owner kept having the battery die. I was breathing too hard on this mirror assembly and the POS fell apart in my hand. I know this thread id years old but I wanted to say thanks for the idea. I'm prolly going to use it.
