Cleaning My Exhaust Tips
I noticed my inside exhaust pipe outlets were getting very black on my C6Z. So the last time I washed 'er, I used carb cleaner and some Easy Off oven cleaner on the inside of the exhaust pipe tips. I sprayed in a combo of both, not a lot, just enough to coat, then washed the rest of the 'Vette to give the cleaners time to soak in.
After I washed the rest of the car, I rinsed out the pipes with the hose and used a tool I also use for the inside of my rims. It's from Griot's Garage and it's a kind of polyester scrubbing tool. I used this on the inside of the pipes. The result was great. The pipes were as clean as they were when new. This was after almost 10K miles of use.
Jus' thought I'd pass this along....

My bad...I should've had my camera out. But, I didn't know how it was going to go. I've put on some mileage since I did this, so the pipes have probably darkened. Next time I'll do before and after picts. But, the method does work well. I was pretty surprised at how good the results were.

I've been using the soft stainless steel wool " grill cleaning " . Either Orange hand degreaser soap or driveway cleaner . Normally its just an oil / fuel drizzle line on the bottom inside .

lotsa soap and they come out great. back in the 70's and 80's there was chrome all over the cars....my 62 caddy is loaded with it....sos has always worked on chrome . you have to be more carefull on stainless though...you can eat it up!

I use some stainless steel wipes you can use on our fridge. I wipe them off once a week or so. That way they never get so bad that they are a chore to get clean again.

You guys clean 'inside' your exhaust?? Wow, I barely found time to clean the outside! I hope I don't lose corvette privileges for not cleaning inside my tips...

If you lose yours I'll lose mine too because I'm thinking the same thing. Except for show cars people actually clean the inside of exhaust tips?

Clean mine every time I wash car, 5 minute job with Mother's mag cleaner, and rag. Never let them get dirty enough to take much time to clean. Just part of keeping it looking sharp. Like polishing wheels, or cleaning wheel wells. Pride of ownership.

The exhaust tips are not getting that nice grey patina on them like I'd like to have but they may get better with age
Personally ; I'd rather be out driving it than washing and polishing it

On my Corsa Extreme Exhaust, I use, Simichrome, a drill, a long drill attachment with a sponge ball on the end - I wrap a cloth around the sponge & hold with a rubber band or tape. Works great.
