Default Trip to Colorado pics

We took the Callaway Grand Sport to Colorado last month and spent some time in Estes Park and the surrounding area as well as driving up Pikes Peak. Here are some pics from that trip. We have some in car dash cam video of going up and down Pikes Peak and some cool roads leading into Estes Park if anyone wants to see those, let me know and I will post the you tube links.

I enjoyed your photos at the top of Pikes Peak. My wife and I went up there last year in late May....feeeeeakin' cold, and windy. Had some hot chocolate in the store at the top.

Here's a couple of photos...

Gorgeous car and beautiful pictures; thanks for sharing them

Did you rev the engine to wake the ghosts and yell : "Here's Johnny" while going by the Stanley Hotel?

Haha, no, but I did say, "Wendy, I'm home!!!"

Here's the links to a few videos. Pikes Peak ones don't have any music added, the one around Estes does.

Going up Pikes Peak

Coming down Pikes Peak, completely different scenery coming down.

From I-70 up into Estes on the back half of our "loop" we did. This road was really fun.

That's why we went in July, hoping to minimize the snow at both Pikes Peak and up on Trail Ridge road in Estes. Cold enough up there without the snow.

Thanks for coming to our state and spending your money.

I have soooooo many gorgeous mountain pics, with and without the Vette and other cool cars, that I don't even bother taking the camera any more when we go for a drive in the mountains.

Did you ever get out of 2nd and 3rd gear going up or down. I just wonder if it was hard on the clutch? Or do you have an auto? Love the pics, makes me want to go.What is the best time of the year to make the trip, I don't want any snow on the road.

Great photos. Our club had 19 Vettes doing the identical cruise last month also. I have photos taken in the same locations as you did. One of the cars in our group was a Callaway GS SC606, but a convertible, the same color as yours. (don't tell anyone, but she(the driver) hit 145 at one point in the trip)

One thing I wasn't able to get a photo of, was just as we were getting to the top of Pikes Peak, a C130 flew by at eye level and you could see the crew.

We had a great time, but a couple of our members got caught in the mudslide on US24 just west of Manitou Springs. Insurance company totaled one of them.

You use the transmission when coming down. I very seldom had to touch the brakes and my front rotors were 113 degrees F at the brake check point. 300 degrees F and they make you pull off to let the brakes cool down, before letting you continue. C6 GS auto in front of me was 136 degrees.

Going up, there are some places where the hairpin turns are so tight plus the grade that I was in first gear at 10 MPH. Not hard on the clutch as you select the right gear and only use the clutch when shifting.

We were there in the second week of July and it was great weather.

We stayed in that big white hotel, the first one in your pics. Can't remember the name of it now. Worst hotel ever. Pretty cool inside, but SUPER overpriced. And they cater more to the people paying $8 for the "ghost tour" than those of us paying $400/night to stay.

Awesome trip, love that area. Thx for the pics

We stayed at the Saddle and Surry(rated #1 in Estes park by TripAdvisor) for $80 a night, with a King. We thought about staying at the Stanley, just to say we stayed there(LOL), but decided not to. Better things to spend our money on.
