Fixed all Targa Top Noise- Thank you SeeFiveOhFun and mrtoner and CF!!
I know this issue has been covered many times, but I just wanted to give a quick appreciation thread to CF and the above posters, and maybe it would help someone that has not seen these threads..
From the day I bought the car I had major noises (creaking, popping and squeaking) coming from the roof of the car.. After doing some searches on the forum, I came upon two helpful threads and did the following really simple tasks ($5 spent and 10 minutes to do):
-Installed 1/2" OD 1/4" ID 1/8" wide "O Rings" on the 2 front targa top Pins lubed with a dab of dielectric grease
-Installed 5/32 "E-Clips" on front latch rollers and dabbed rollers with dielectric grease
-Tightened down the 4 targa top pins with a 15mm wrench. (they were slightly loose)
After that, the top snapped REALLY tight in place and for the last week, I have not had one single sound coming from the top. Slow-speed, high-speed, mountain driving, and traffic hour.. all silence. (Well not silence as I have Runflats that are now driving me nuts esp. driving on the bridge or uneven highways, but you get the picture )

MINE IS DRIVING ME NUTS !!!
I have tried the grease lube job, the o rings, the e clips, the shrink tubes. It's just on my passenger side. When I put o rings on it gets worse. Makes a girl want to drink

I had the dealer do mine a couple of months ago. They greased the front pins and also the center rear. It worked fine ... not a peep from the top ... for about 3 weeks. Then the noises came back loud as ever.
I put a couple of O-rings on the pins, and that's helped some but not totally. Haven't tried the e-clips yet, nor did I tighten the bolts. I guess those two items are next.
Hope your fix works permanently.

Lou that isn't nice but sometimes that is what a lady has to do. I'll have one about 7pm tonight lift a glass about that time
Hope it eases up I am going to look at my top again today....... I may just have to go topless all weekend.

I had the "creak". hopefully lubing with "Tetra® Lube Grease" (A synthetic, high-performance fluoropolymer industrial grease lubricant designed to protect moving components from deterioration under extreme conditions) continues to do the trick.
If not I will try the O-ring treatment.
Good post, thanks!
PS: topless weekend photos required from LISA!!!

I'm in for topless pics of Lisa.
My GS top noise fixed with o-rings and shrink wrap over all the pins. Seems to last about 10 - 12 months and then I have to re-do them all over again, and they stay quiet again for another 10-12 months.

I am all for the pics are in this thread!!
Lisa have you checked to see if your pins are loose? Mine were to the point where you can turn them by hand.
I didn't do the shrink-wrap as it seemed like it would wear down shortly, but the O-rings are pretty sturdy and after all the installs, top top really locks down tightly.

BTW, this is an old thread - there are quite a few more recent posts, but they all pretty much say the same, and have the same solutions.

Success!! Thanks to everyone for all the info. I lubed all the contact points - made sure the latches were tight (they were), added the extra o-ring on front pins and found the drivers side rear pin was lose - so tightened that and just went out for a run and not a single pop crackle or squeak. I am thrilled. Again thanks to all for the info!!!
