Would you do this to your car?
A guy I've known a long time plays in our golf group. A couple years ago he bought a new Mercedes diesel. I think it's an E330 BluTech. Anyway, he doesn't take care of of the car at all. Only been washed once since he's had it to the best of my knowledge. Scratches all over it.
But the kicker is when he opens the trunk to get his clubs out, he first changes shoes. Puts his foot, complete with dirty work boots, on the bumper and grinds it around while untying, and then does the same when he's through and takes his golf shoes off and puts the boots back on. Of course, there is sand and dirt all over the bottom of the boots.
The inside of the car looks like people walked in oil, then got in and wiped their feet all over the mats. And the back seat is full of junk. He has "kids" at home ... but they're 22 and 26. Won't move out!
Once he had ordered some golf shoes off the internet and they didn't fit. He brought them to golf, and wanted me to try them. So when I came out after going in the pro shop to sign in, the damn shoes were sitting on my Vette trunk ... right in front of the black spoiler with the third brake light. Can you believe anyone would do that to someone else's car, regardless of how careless they are with their own?
He's pretty much a slob in all other ways too.

You pretty much summed it up when you said he is a slob in other ways also. If you lose a friend because you tell him not to ever put his golf shoes on your car again, it wouldn't be much of a loss in my opinion.

If anyone ever put their golf shoes on my Corvette, I would have to put my golf shoes on their back . . With me in them. That's beyond clueless.

Does he have money? I have several friends that have serious money and they treat there cars the very same way. Most are leased and they could care less about them. I find people with real money don't really care about things like cars unless they are a hobby or collector.

That's a shame. The slob in other areas comment, tho, made it make sense. The guy simply sounds like he doesn't appreciate the things he has and doesn't care to.

obviously hes a slob and then some. not sure if I would have even gotten as far as playing golf with him. abusing a car is one thing, living like a pig is a different story.

The guy's obviously a slob in his personal life; that said it's his car, his life. If it's more than you can deal with, just phase yourself out.
Doubtful a pair of today's golf shoes would hurt your car unless he threw them at it. I probably wouldn't like it either, though, but nothing to get all upset about. For some people, a car is all about getting from point a to point b, and that's it.
