Default Hood struts/shocks failure.

The shocks that hold my hood open decided to fail today. No big deal except I was leaning over disconnecting the battery when it happened and took a shot to the back of my head. Didnt really hurt but did scare the sheet outa me.

Sounds like your car has a little Christine in her....

Engine heat is tough on the struts...fortunately they are inexpensive and easy to replace.

Just replaced mine on Friday. Got them from the local O'Reilly's for about $20 each. Took 5 minutes and they work great. They will actually open the hood themselves once it's about halfway up.

Amazon has a Strong Arm brand one for $20, any comments on this brand?

Those are the ones I got. They work and look just like the factory ones and do open the hood automatically after you lift it a bit.

One of the hood struts died on our 2006, and one of the trunk struts died on our 2009; both at around 2 yrs/30k miles.

In each case, replaced under warranty.

I guess I'm lucky my car had made it over seven years with the originals

I just ordered a set of Strong Arm struts for the hood and hatch for my '05 coupe... after 128k miles, they finally wore out... next will be the brake rotors and pads which are also the originals...

that is unheard of, I thought at 56k I had done pretty good with the original brakes/rotors

Did you buy the car used and they were replaced once, seems almost impossible.

I am the original owner and drove the car off the lot with 5 miles on the odometer...

Mine is not a daily driver but I drive it every chance I get...lots of long trips up and down the East Coast, Bowling Green and Canada so not a lot of braking...

that is still impressive, aside from my Corvette the maximum I have gone without a brake changes is usually 36k and by then there is a lot of pulsation while braking at higher speeds
