Seek Your Opinion on 2005 C6 Price
I've had my 1995 coupe for almost eight years, and Annie and I have decided that it's time to move up to a new one.
With that in mind, I'd like to get the opinion of the C6 crowd on a 2005 that I've located.
Black on black coupe
1SB package (HUD, 6 disc changer, heated seats, memory package, premium Bose system, and a few other odds and ends)
Automatic transmission
Z51
3.15:1 rear gear ratio
The car has 21,500 miles on it, and the CARFAX is clean.
Asking price is just under $27,000.
What do you think?
Thanks,
Steven

Steven, I think that's a decent price. I bought a 2006 vert yesterday with the 3LT package, chrome wheels, and new Michlin Pilot tires and payed $31,500. I looked at many online car sites (found it on Craig's list) for a month and couldn't find anything comparable for that price. There may be cheaper one's out there but you gotta be in the right place at the right time.

Depends on how clean it is and how bad you want it.
The C6 market is getting soft now with the introduction of the C7.
If you have the patience there are deals to be had out there.
Maybe 25K..... if its super clean and fits your needs.

Price is about right, I am sure there are better deals out there if you want to keep looking. But if this is the car you want, I would get it, for me it is a good enough deal.

Price seems fair. I was guessing $25k also. All depends on your area. Don't rely on CARFAX 100% though. I had an 07 Impala SS that was hit on the side causing $7500 of damage and it never showed up. I did report it to the new owner when I sold it almost 4 1/2 years later though. Get it inspected by someone you can trust.

I would not buy it at all. The first year C6 (2005) had many well documented problems. The 2006 & 2007 cars did not suffer from the multitude of problems the 2005 did.
In 2008 there was a vast number of very significant imptovements; a new larger more powerful engine, new far better shifting manual transmission, significantly improved power steering, upgraded interior, etc.
There are 2008's available in that price range for those who will take the time to shop for it and will enjoy all the improvements found in a 2008.
Happy hunting, finding the nicer car at a nice price is half the fun. Good luck in your search, and enjoy the fun of finding a great car.

I had an 05 and loved it but I would try to find an 08 if it is in your price range...the same equipment in an 08 (3LT) CAN PROBABLY BE HAD FOR low 30's now.Better all around car as far as motor and tranny and some other changes they made.If that's not doable than 25ish is an ok price for the 05,no more.

I paid $27k for my 2006 A6 with 40k miles. 3LT with Nav, Bose, HUD, F55 suspension, Comp Gray wheels, dual roof panels, just about everything. The car you mentioned sounds very nice, but it wouldn't hurt to try to get the price down a bit. As the others here have mentioned, $25k sounds fair.

Contrary to what you might hear, that's not a bad price for a car with that equipment and those miles and a clean carfax.
A comparable 08 will be in the mid upper 30's. $25k would be great but really nice, low mileage vetted go at a premium.

Wait for a 2008, you will find it in the low 30's easily, high 20s with a little patience and dilligent shopping. Stay away from a 2005, no matter how clean or pretty. Do a little due dilligence and research all the problems the 2005's have, up to & including broken rear differential housings, electrical problems, and several other significant issues. Research it. A 2008 for similar money is a whole lot more fun and a far better car.

It's a fair price, not a bad or great price. I'm thinking $25K.
I always tell folks on CF when the question comes up to purchase the newest car you can afford, with the least amount of miles.
I have an 05 and been very happy with it. I think you can pick nearly any year, and you will find some have issues while others don't. I would not be afraid of an 05, and if you like the car then the model year should not stop you.
Common things to look for on a used C6 is excessive wear on the inside of the front tires and the harmonic balancer. Turn the wheel to the stops and check the tires...could be a $1600 mistake if you don't. Look for wobble on the harmonic balancer, if its moving its on its way out.
If either of these problems exist then you can use it as a bargaining chip.

You might also consider a brand new 2013 1LT for around $37,000 for a manual shift car, or $38,000 for an automatic, since you own a Corvette you get $3,000 off the best price you can find because of Corvette owner loyalty rebate.

Can you provide me the quick and dirty list of unique 2005 problems I need to research? And are these problems that any competent mechanic can fix with common tools? Since I drive a C4, I've gotten to spend time working on it, so having to look out for and repair a C6 should be OK - unless it requires a heavy investment in electronic instruments.
Thanks,
Steven

Please tell me where I can find a new 2013 for $37,000. I would be all over it! I am having Vette withdrawls since I sold my vert!

BUT
You need to qualify for every discount and rebate available (military?) AND you need a trade in worth $4000.
You can Google "Castriota Chevrolet" or "Mahar Chevrolet", both in the Tampa Bay area.
