Default My C6 is Eating Left Turn Signal Bulbs

Every six to seven months I have to replace my left turn signal bulb. Anyone else having this problem? I still have the original bulb in the right signal. Is it because you make more left turns?

That's funny.....haven't seen that before.

Probably because it takes longer waiting to make left turns so the bulb gets more "on" time and gets hotter.

Just thinking out loud.

I would think you have a bad 'socket' - or perhaps a loose electrical connection to the socket. IMHO, you should check both, as turn signal bulbs last much monger than 6 months.

I can't offer any technical input to solve your problem, but you may find this interesting.

Had the same problem with my C-5. used a little extra dielectric. The bulb was there when I sold it.

Make sure you are not getting moisture in and around the bulb. A friend had a C5 and it had a small hole in the housing and it would get wet and blow the bulb. The C6 bulbs are exposed even more.

Clean and inspect sockets and wiring as well.
Takes too long to make 3 right turns.....

When I first joined the CF back in 2005, I vaguely remember a run of burnt out directional bulbs and I believe the cause was a bad socket. But that a long time ago. Don't know if that helps.

I also think they were at that time replaced by the dealer under warranty but that wouldn't apply in your case now. Good luck.

Make sure it's exactly the right number bulb. I was going through bulbs like crazy, then bought the exact bulb and the problems stopped.....

Replace the socket. They tend to over heat as the drl is also on. Use a dielectric past sparingly. I never run my drl and my C6 has all original bulbs. My Cadillac SRX on the other hand eats bulbs no matter what I have done to stop it.
C5s also had this problem...

I experienced the same thing with my C 5. After replacing several bulbs I took it to the dealer. The socket was replaced (under warranty) and that took care of the problem. I have had no problem with the C 6.

Replace lights with some LED tail lights. Never have to worry about bulbs burning out again. Problem solved.

Check for bad ground or loose connection

C5s also had this problem...
We had a 2006 SRX and it went through about 4 bulbs in its lifetime. The last time, they replaced the socket (it showed that it had been burned) and the problems ceased. The problem is ... it's a major operation on the older style SRX to replace the bulb ... you either have to remove the bumper, or a front wheel and the liner to get access to the bulb. Cost at the dealer: $260, and the bulb is about $5. Terrible engineering.

I've not had the problem with my C6, but I had to replace one on my C5. But I had it 11 years, so no biggie. And my Corvette specialty shop did it free, just $5 for the bulb. Probably been a fortune at the dealer.

In my opinion, that's a terrible idea, especially if it's just to save the bulb. I like to be seen as much as possible, and the low-slung Vette is hard enough to see with lights on.

Some people don't use turn signals just to save the bulb. That too is a terrible idea, and illegal in most places.

I saw that very thing tested on MythBusters a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't a new program, and may have been shown a hundred times, but it was the first time I'd seen it. And I like to see Kari ....

The conclusion was that it does indeed save gas to make all right turns, even though it's a longer distance. And they had quantitative data to prove it. But it takes more time. Arguably, it's also safer.

I had the same problem with my C5 and had to replace the socket and harness, was around $50.00 through the dealer for the part. I did the change myself.

I would start with putting dielectric grease in the socket and see if that solves your problem, if not it is probably the socket/harness. Good luck
