Broken shifter linkage & shift to park issue
Last week on my way home from work my car would not shift into park. Fortunately I was in my driveway. The shifter would move between gears but there was no resistance. I came across the below thread replacing the bushing between the shifter and the transmission cable.

So I pull the console & shifter and I can see half the bushing on the shifter and the other on the half on the end of the cable. While digging out the bushing on the cable end I had to put pressure on the cable and heard a pop. The plastic housing for the cable cracked. I figured I'd be putting in a new cable but put everything back together to see if it worked at all.
At this point the battery was pretty drained and I got the "Shift to Park" even though the transmission (Pushed the cable back into park) and the shifter were in park. I figured it was the battery.
Today I picked up a new cable ($80) and battery. I pulled the console & shifter, made sure everything was in park, and put in the new battery. I am still getting the shift to park on the screen. Also I can not get it to start in P or in N.
The shift release is working when I press the break. There seems to be to switches to tell the shifter is in park, both of which look to be pressed. I tried pushing them a little further and pressing the start button but still not turning over.
Is there any sort of sensor on the transmission telling the computer what gear it is in ? I counted the notches as I pushed the cable and I am sure it's in park.
I didn't bang or drop the shifter at any point.
Right now I've got the new battery unhooked and the console & shifter still out.
Any ideas ? I had planned to drive it to my mechanic so he could knock out the transmission cable with a lift.
Thanks!

This morning before trying again I came across the below thread mentioning checking the wiring connections around the shifter:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...005-a-4-a.html
So this morning I hooked up the battery and gave it a try, nothing. Then unplugged the wiring harness from the shifter to the connector on the right side of the console and plugged it back it. Car started right up.
Drive to my mechanic using the cable to shift, 1.5 hrs labor to replace the cable, and everything is back to normal. So $80 for the cable, $120 for the labor.
