Default cleaned my wheels

The car is pretty much put away for the winter at this point, so i thought i'd pull the wheels and paint the calipers and detail things a bit. The backsides of the wheels have not been cleaned since it was new i think. i've had the car for about a year now, my bro owned it before me and i'm quite sure they never were off the car. so they were pretty BLACK on the backside. I used wheel cleaner and an SOS pad. Cleaned up very well. I had thought i was going to need to repaint the backsides of them, now they look fine. I also pulled the rotors front and back and the 4 hubs were rusty. so that will be next on the list to clean. Also planning on using aluminum brightner on the suspension parts- they are quite black. I'll post some picts when i get it all cleaned up.

They look good. Is there anything you can put on them to help them stay clean on the inside?

SOS pads are not a good choice to clean your wheels
1 - way to abrasive
2 - they can leave fines of steel attached to your wheel that will show up as rust in the near future.
Only use items to clean your wheels that you would use to clean your hood.

I've used SOS pads on chrome for years. It always does a good job. Did any of you guys ever have 60's or 70's cars? Chrome bumpers? SOS was the standard. I still have a 62 caddy that's covered in chrome. Only way to go!

I clean the backside of my wheels every time I clean the car. Also used the aluminum brightener to do a lot of the suspension parts.

Its real easy to clean the backside of the wheels, just buy a brush with a long handle.

Yeah i bought a big bottle of aluminum brightner for my suspension too. I can't believe how black it got. It's been driven in the rain, but not the snow...

did you spray the aluminum bright....I didn't spray it or soak it on...afraid to get it on other things...thought it might be too harsh....

Can't hardly tell I even did mine...but it was still night and day from when I started.

(ignore the lube...that was cleaned up after the photos)

that looks like it came out great on your car. My plan was to gently spray it on. i think it will eat up painted surfaces, so i'll have to go easy on that. When I'm done i'm thinking about clear coating the parts. Not with rattle can paint, but two part clearcoat that i would use to paint a car with. should keep it looking good for a long time. I don't intentionally drive the thing in the rain, so it should stay looking nice.
