I Had My '06 Vert Appraised
A local Chevy dealership has a promotion for a free oil change if you have your car appraised.
I have a 2006 Monterey red vert, 3LT, no NAV and no OnStar, 37,000 miles. The rear tires are OK but will need to be replaced fairly soon.
They quoted me a price of $17,500. That seems awfully low. They did have 6 C7s on the lot plus a lot of used or leftover C6s.
The salesman advised me to sell the car myself and sell to them as a safety net.
I was not ready to buy a C7, so I don't know if I could have negotiated a better price if I was willing to buy or order today.

no doubt, that is pretty low. but it's probably the number that they can get, (w. a little more so as not to lose money on the entire transaction) if they can't sell it retail and have to send it to auction. they watch their local auction actual sale prices pretty closely.

Selling a car outright to a dealer is the worst way to sell a car. They won't pay more than they could buy the same car at an auction for, which is never what the seller would like to get. At least on a trade there is room to negotiate.

They're making their money even if they send it to auction at that price. They tried to have their way with you since they figured since you wanted to sell outright you were desperate for money.

Ok, first of all you don't "sell" to a dealership. What you do essentially is wholesale your car to them. They "sell" your car to the public at retail. They are in the business of retail sales...You cannot gauge the retail value of your Vette buy trying to wholesale at a dealership. KBB,EDMUNDS and the like are all guides, they don't write the checks. So they will probably overvalue your car. What you should do is look in the paper and online in autotrader and places like that and see what people and dealers are asking for cars similar to your vette and go from there.

There are so many C6s on the market, value is in a nose dive. I did a pre delivery trade on a C7 because on this downward trend. The C6 took a double hit, first the 2007 depression/recession now the C7 introduction.

I would be pissed!
You should run to KBB, Edmonds and NADA and sell them your car!
This goes back to the What is my car worth thread last week.
2005 beater with Mods - I said 18K and the followed up with a dealer will give 16K on trade.
I just about got flamed by the crazy $$$$ Corvette fanatics on this forum.
These guys seem to think a ten year old plastic car is worth a lot of money.
If I could get 18K for my 2007, I would smile all the way to buying my next one.

Did they do the oil change after the appraisal? Better be sure they actually changed your oil. I wonder if you're running around with the same oil you came in with....

So I don't see a problem....you got a free oil change......and they low balled you......( you know....buy low...sell high)...you still have your ride and you have plenty of time to either sell it or keep it.....
Now if they charged for the appraisal....and you paid...........never mind....you know already...

Glad you walked. I'm guessing that the dealership wanted full sticker for any C7. Combine that with the low-ball offer for your C6, and they'd have pocketed a nice fat wad o' cash for the price of an oil change. BTW, I hope they used the recommended synthetic oil.

"Black Book" (current auction price) for 2006 Vert:
Average of 7 cars sold over last 30 days.
$27,500 @ 30,000 miles
I wouldn't call a dealer offer, an "appraisal" though.

I feel pretty fortunate to have been offered 34k in trade for my '07 covertible with almost 20k miles this past November. One might even say I was in shock. Of course this is relative to the amount one pays for the car being traded for. In my case it was a same year Z with very low miles and in the low 40k price range. I think I did alright, especially considering I only paid tax on the difference.
