Default grand sport tire wear

I'm trying to decide between a C7 and C6 GS. Seems like people are really going through tires quick with the GS's, sometime under 10K miles.

Can this really be fixed with alignment and tire options? This could have an impact on my decision if you can't stretch the wear time. I don't need an aggressive alignment or really sticky tires because I won't be tracking the car.

Thanks.

Get a good alignment. My stock Goodyears lasted 24,000 miles on my 2008 Z06. The first thing I did to the Z06 after I took delivery was get an alignment.

Is there a specific alignment to ask for? I'm fine with 24K miles but less than 10K with normal driving would be expensive.

Im not sure you can judge the wear for the C7 yet.
As mentioned above alignment on the GS is set up aggressive from the factory - C7 might well be the same

Approaching 18K miles on my original tires on my GS. It's all in how you drive, and where you drive.

Default mine croaked at 6000

on my 2012 GS Vert which I bought at 5000 miles.....talked to Goodyear and they replaced them basically for shipping costs plus installation....and the Goodyear store said the front was well out of alignment, probably from the factory

Get a Pfadt street alignment... The specs are out there and it makes all the difference in the world.

Mine got less than 10k on the stock tires, and the insides were completely bald while the middles and outsides had a ton of tread left.

Go to www.pfadtracing.com and click the tech tab and you will find alignment recommendations for street use, track use etc. which have worked pretty well for many forum members. You probably want what is listed as "Performance Street" specs for your use.

I just turned 5K miles & mine (all 4) are almost down to the wear bars on the outside edge, anyone have any luck getting theirs replaced either from dealer or Goodyear or at least prorated $$ for a different set ??

I have a GS. Great car, great fun, and beautiful. Tire wear and choices are not the best. But if I were choosing between it and a C7, tire wear would not be a primary issue. Good luck.

It is not the stock alignment. I have mine set to dead center GM specs (make sure it says w XFA at the top if you have a GS) and I've had zero issues after constant issues with my 11 GS Vert by using non factory spec alignments. I currently have 17k miles on my Michelin Sports and I still have over 1/2 tread left, wearing evenly across the treads also. I rotate mine side to side every 7500 miles or so.

Did you contact GM first for a resolution or just go directly to Goodyear to work out a deal ? sounds like you came out ok.

Ask for 0 degree camber on all 4 corners.

Had my '12 done. I am at nearly 9k and tires are holding up well.

^^^THIS!

1. The Goodyear tires suck compared to the Michelin (road noise, grip, handling, etc).
2. The Pfadt Street Alignment makes a great improvement over the stock alignment. If you don't do this, don't complain when your stock alignment eats the inside of your tires.

I had to replace my GY tires two weeks ago ~9500 miles and cannot believe I didn't do these two things sooner. What a great upgrade.

I have a 2011 GS, daily driver, with over 40k on it. I'm gonna get 30k out of my Bridgestone Potenza RFs. They still grip like crazy (from the high 20's to the 100's), and didn't try to hydroplane in the big rain storm we had yesterday in my area.

The best wearing tire for the GS is from what I been reading here for a few years are the Bridgestones. Putting them on my GS this spring.
