Default baterry tender question

I have a 2011 z06 carbon. Do you hook the tender to the battery or connections under the hood ? My car was struggling everytime i went to start it, with original battery, so i hooked up the tender to the battery terminals and the next morning still charging ? I figured the battery was shot so i bought a knew one. The new battery has been on the charger for 4 hours now and still showing red. Shouldnt it of leveled off by now ?

Depending on how long the new battery sat on the shelf before you bought it could take a long time. If your using a maintainer it may never fully charge.

Tenders are primarily battery maintainers and may take quite a bit longer to charge a battery than a conventional charger.

You may need to have your car tested to see if there is an excessive parasitic drain . After shutdown and about 20 minutes later the car goes to 'sleep' and the current draw should be minimal. This is the point at which you check if the car is continuing to pull too much current.

Sorry I can't help you with the exact numbers but a search may turn them up.

As far as connecting the tender to the car, the easiest way is to get a lighter socket adapter and plug it in to either of the sockets in the dash or center console. They are both hot all the time.

I hook mine up to the battery posts with the alligator clips. Yes, it can take many hours to bring to a full charge, depending how low it is. It could take most of the night. Just hook it up, and be patient.

I use a Battery Tender Plus and what I notice is even after a long drive I plug her in and it will be red for at least a couple of hours. When it gets up to 80% it flashes red/green. It eventually turns solid green after hours. I stopped watching it.

When I hook up my tender to minds for the first time it took about 4-5 hrs to fully charge, after the first time it takes about 30min or less. Be patient

I use a Battery Tender Jr. I hook mine up to the battery posts with the alligator clips. Sometimes, it takes all night for the light to turn to solid green. Be patient.

BT Plus is only 1.25 amp charge at full so it takes a while to bring up a battery and equalize the charge between the cells. If the battery is dead or badly sulfated (sluggish), allow it to charge for a couple of days. A "full charge" in a few hours doesn't mean the charger has done what it was designed to do. If you don't let the Battery Tender to do it's job, you may as well just use a trickle charger.
BT Junior only does about .75 amps, and I wouldn't even recommend using one on full size batteries. They were designed for smaller batteries like motorcycle or lawnmowers. If you are using a Jr on a full size battery, you're better off disconnecting it and charging for at least 3-4 days.

BT Junior wouldn't be my first choice, but I happened to have one so that's what I've used on my C6 for years. Always keeps the battery topped off, no problems. I wouldn't use it or any other tender to charge a battery, that's what a charger is for.

Since you're a Z06 owner, this might interest you:

I use mine all the time since it's so convenient.

I already had the Battery Tender Jr. that I used for my lawnmower battery. I don't use it to charge the battery on my Z, I use it to keep it charged. I also have a regular battery charger if I happen to have a dead battery. I keep the Jr. on the Z just to keep it charged up. It works well, but a regular Battery Tender would probably work better, I just didn't see the need to spend the money.

I hook the battery tender to the battery posts via alligator clips. Sometimes it takes several hours before the green light comes on. So far, so good.

Since it is a float charger, it may say that it is charging the next morning, but that doesnt mean that it hadnt finished the night before. It will constantly change from charging to standby to offer optimum performance from the battery.
