mystery USB port
I discovered a USB port at the rear of the center console in my '13 2LT and can't find anything about it in the owner's manual. Does it have any useful function beyond charging a cell phone?

Hooking up an iPod to run thru the audio system. Use mine all the time. Also recharges it. Be aware that it gets awfully hot in the console even with an insulator mat installed. I extend the iPod wire and let it "sit" in the rear cup holder in front of the console door.

Perhaps it is a USB in port, so that you may use your iPhone or other device that stores music files for play through the stereo system through the dropdown menu; AM, FM, XM, CD, USB, etc. Make sure your radio is turned OFF prior to plugging in or you may get a loud POP through the speakers if you connect while both device and radio is turned ON.

You can get a small thumb drive, put your music files on it and there's a USB option on the audio head unit. You can then play those audio files. I recommend organizing the files into folders, for different types of music, so you have a way of selecting different types. You can press the "Select Tracks" button, on the screen and then there will be a button for folders, where you it takes you to the list of folders. Select the folder you want and press the first track in that folder to play it. There's a "Random" button on the player screen to shuffle tracks. Otherwise it will just play them in alphabetical order. You can avoid having an iPoop or MP3 player devise this way.
There's also an AUX port next to it.

Gm is very vague in this regard. Check page 7-16 of your owners manual and page 30 of your Navigation supplemental manual.
Auxiliary Devices
Using the Auxiliary Input Jack
The vehicle may have an auxiliary
input jack located on the right side
of the faceplate or in the center
console. This is not an audio output;
do not plug the headphone set into
the front auxiliary input jack. An
external audio device can be
connected to the auxiliary input jack
for use as another source for audio
listening.
Drivers are encouraged to set up
any auxiliary device while the
vehicle is in P (Park). See Defensive
Driving on page 9‑2.
Doesn't really explain anything but I use a thumb drive in mine. All my music is on it. on page 7-15 of the manual it will explain the folder limitations.

I have an 11 and there's not much in the Owner's Maunal but a pretty good mention in the Navigation manual on page 29 "Connecting a USB Storage Device or iPod". I use mine with an iPod Nano and it works fine. I unplug it when not using it but the power is removed when you shut the car off so you don't have to worry about a draw.

music, music, music. buy some flash drives and sync all kinds of music into them. thats all i play in mine. better than the cd player due to the fact you don't have to keep changing a disc.

How do you all have your music organized? I have a separate folder for each artist. It's still a pain to go from A to Z.
I tried making a folder for each genre: rock/rap/county/r&b and then move the artist folders under the genre but I don't think the radio recognized all of the folders.

Same system as in my V-Caddy.... have 790 cuts of music on a thumb drive slightly larger than a 5-cent piece...
The system allows you to check Artist, Album, Genre... easy to use....

Don't use the artist folders. Just put the song files in a folder you create. There may be other ways of doing it, but that works for me. The system is old and has its limitations.

And the USB info is on page 25 for us with the 2013 vehicle. FWIW, I just use the nav system - self explanatory so I never opened the book.
Thanks for the help ...

I added one to my '08 (pre bluetooth obviously) but works the same way.. ipod controls are from the steering wheel as well as the nav screen. pretty awesome.
