Default High Mount Third Brake Light

Got this new project to install a 80 LED high mount third brake light to the back glass. Tucks up high enough that looking out the rear view mirror you don't see brake light bar.

I mounted it to glass with black trim adhesive and will post more pictures after I get the brake light power connected.

Won't that just fill your cabin with red light every time you hit the brakes at night time?

Thanks for sharing.

Few more pictures as I progress.

Applied the black adhesive to hide the wires and allow routing of wires. I chose to drill a small 1/8" hole behind the roof halo panel and applied sealer to stop any water that may get back there.

Daytime view of third brake light. Tapped into rear brake light power so it flashes with Hazards. Night pictures coming next. Outside and inside.

Finished the installation of the high mount third brake light. During the day no red light can be seen. The amount of red light shown during the night is there but I did not find it prevented me from seeing out the back glass. I have 40% 3M Crystalline ceramic tint on the back glass. I did add a strip of black tape to the top and bottom of the light bar to stop the added light from flooding the car. Total cost was $30 plus my time about 4 hours over 2 days. I had to let the black adhesive cure on the glass overnight.

Your car and it is a nice job, but with the tail lights you have I don't see that it is really needed. But as I said it is your car and if you like it that is all that really matters.

With just a few more lights, you'll have F-18s trying to land behind you.

Actually a really good idea given all the idiots who tailgate while eating and texting. You can't have enough brake lights for those folks.

Wait until you get rear ended. I did at a stop sign on a rural highway Sunday @ 8:00am no traffic. HS girl rear ended me and it was 3 months and $4k to get the car back to original condition. We all do modifications interior/exterior and this is just another one.

She will still hit you. It was not a lack of lights on your car, it was a lack of observation on her part.

It's discreet and if it saves you once it's worth the hassle a 100 times over.
I went with strobe adapter for the factory light, everyone I asked thought it makes a difference, if you really want to cover all the bases you might want to consider adding a strobe effect to your 3rd x 2 lights.

Highschool girl drivers have to be the worst drivers on the road. I almost got rear ended a few years ago by one on a 60mph 2 lane highway.
I was turning left and had to stop to wait for on coming traffic, so I pulled as close to the centerline as I could to let cars behind me drive around on the shoulder, this highway had a decent size shoulder so they could get around. I looked in my rearview mirror and I see a yellow cobalt coupe with shoe polish writing all over the windows coming up behind me at a good rate of speed. It is getting closer and closer and not slowing down. They get so close I can see its 2 teenage girls looking down at probably a phone and not looking at the road. I brace for impact almost certain they are going to rearend me going at least 60mph and at the last second she locks up her brakes and veers onto the shoulder. While she is passing by me she is looking over at me as if I did something wrong, (what an idiot). Needless to say a month later when I was passing by the street she lives on that cobalt was parked in the front yard wrecked, looked like she rear ended someone. Pretty sure the car was totaled because I never saw that car again.
