08 M6 bad Starter... again.
So here's the deal. After doing some diagnostic stuff we have determined that the starter is once again out... A few questions:
1) The starter was replaced a year ago under factory warranty. I called GM and they're telling me that normally the new starter that they put in last year would be covered under a warranty for that part... but because it was replaced under factory warranty there is no warranty for the part. So they won't cover it. Bunch of BS.
2) Chevy wants $700 to replace the starter! (not happening)
3) How hard is it to replace one for those of you who have done it? Doesn't look too bad but these newer cars are always more difficult than they seem.

Don't know anything about your car so this might be overkill but might be worth considering:

It's fairly simple job. Remove the battery and power wires and the two bolts holding down the starter. I believe they are 14mm if I remember correctly. Just put the front of your car on jack stands and carefully climb under there. The starter is very easy to get to. Don't forget to remove your negative battery terminal first.

I'm looking for the starter wiring schematic for an '11 Z06. Not having a problem but thinking about some extra theft prevention by putting a switch in the starter relay circuit. Google came up with a million starter circuits but not the one I need.

I would not use the procomp starter - far better choices
MSD DynaForce Starter, GM LS1-LS7 Engines
Part No. 5096
These are made in the USA parts
Or use the Powermaster starter also made in the USA

What is the car doing (malfunctioning) that requires a starter replacement?
Most any starter/alternator shop can rebuild it for next to nothing.
If it's just a bad solenoid (due to heat/arcing issue most likely) it's a $25 (or less) fix.

About $90 at O'Reilly's 3 years ago. If it's just the solenoid that broke the stud out of the bakelite housing, most auto electric shops that do alternator/starter work can replace it in the $30-40 range.
About 45 minutes to remove or replace for me last year (age 72), but you may be quicker.

I bought a starter for my Chevy van from Rock Auto.
USA made, lifetime warranty, and, get this,,,,,,,,, Road service towing if the starter fails on the road. $96.00 +15 shipping.
Rock Auto rocks, check them out for your starter on their web site. Which is very easy to use.
