Default backup camera

Picked up a lic plate backup camera off of ebay and what should have been a simple hookup turn out to be not so simple. I can't seem to get it to power up. I ran the video cable from camera to my navigation and spliced into my backup light to power it but it won't power up. Any suggestions I'm I missing something.

Did you start the car and put it in reverse?

Did you connect to the right wire in the reverse lights? I did that and switched wires and it worked,

Light Green is power. Black is ground.

Does everything work when it is powered directly from the battery?

could be your camera is working but your connection to your head unit is not right.

Do you have a good ground for the camera power?

Did you turn the camera option on in the Head Unit settings?

I just did the same BU Camera that mounts to the License Plate and it worked first shot, perfectly, I love it.

Use a voltmeter, connect it to the same points you're using to power up the camera. That will tell you if the circuit is alive.

Those are typically IR LEDs, and so you won't see them light up. Unless you happen to see in IR instead of what we consider visible light of course.

And you can test IR LEDs with a telephone camera. Digital cameras see IR. Try it with a TV remote to see what I mean and then see if the car camera lights are really on.

Ok, finally got it to work, but it won't engage when i put it in reverse unless I press the Nav button for a few seconds then it engage when I put it reverse. But since I only use it when I'm backing in to park I'm satisfied, I'll continue to play with my setting to see if I can get it to engage without pressing the Nav button. Thanks everyone for your input.

What head unit do you have? I just had to bring mine back to Best Buy because after installing the back up camera my phone Mic stopped working. Turns out Pioneer has a software update for this issue. You might need to update the head unit software.
