Default Pledge

I know pilots who have used Pledge for years on their windshields. Seems it provide a protective finish to which bugs don't stick.

They actually make an unscented version of Lemon Pledge and it works the same without the smell. Works great to clean and shine about anything. I used to use a bicycle cleaner years ago on all kinds of stuff and found out it was actually Pledge without the lemon scent. It was much cheaper to buy the Pledge and I didn't mind the scent so I've used it for years on my bicycles, motorcycle and cars.

I use it on my motorcycle engine and it works great, the engine is black and makes it look new. Just spray it on when the engine is hot and the pledge will melt right on. Been using it since the mid 80s with no ill affects. Also use it on the engine conpartments of all my cars after the engine is cleaned.

Back in the day (the mid 70’s) I had a Challenger T/A and my buddy had an AAR Cuda. The cars had factory fiberglass hoods and the finish was like fine sand paper. The ONLY thing we could find to shine those hoods was lemon pledge (wax just got stuck in the fine finish and turned white), we also put it on the side stripes. Worked great, but didn’t last more than 3-4 weeks.

Glad to hear it is still in use in the modern age.

it's not that it doesn't work, it's that there are many superior products (primarily in longevity)

I have read a lot of post where people swear by it, but I prefer to use products designed for the purpose. Pledge was designed to remove dust and shine wood and fake wood products as well as other surfaces within the home.
If you drive your car and it is exposed to the elements you need a true wax or sealant protection designed to to protect against the elements. If all you are looking for is a quick pop to the paint I guess Pledge would do that, but there are plenty of good quality automotive detail sprays that accomplish the same and they do add a small amount of protection.

Talked to a buddy of mine today who uses nothing but Pledge on the inside, outside, and glass. Swears by it.

I happen to think he's an idiot.

Pardon me. I should of been more specific.

I just want to know. If pledge is used on exterior paint, does it lead to the paint getting dirtier/collect more dust n etc. Also, does it make it harder to wash and get clean after its been used. So pledge doesnt leave a whute residue like regular wax does? Having an black on black on black on black c6. It matters. Well to me. ;-)

Thanks in advance

To those that Pledge the paint
Can you post some close up shots in the sun? Like to show reflections/swirls etc?
Does it bead water?
Why use it instead off things that last longer? And are proven for this?

This reminds me of people using peanut butter to remove wax from trim. Will it work yes is it the best option? Doubt it
And toothpaste on headlights :-)

Default pledge

A can of pledge. makes the finish "POP", no swirl marks, no buildup, water beads. i'm not looking for long term. most vette owners detail and wax their cars on a regular basis. i have owned (seven Vettes) used pledge on all. attic and garage are filled with trophies and people compliment car all the time. i'm not saying there aren't more expensive products, but i'm happy with results. to each his/her own.

hold on... pledge will make no difference in adding or removing swirls marks. swirl marks are made by human error and corrected by leveling the paint with an appropriate product.

I been using lemon pledge for a detailing spray for at least 30 years.
As far as corvettes go owned my first C5 for 5 years and my first C6 for 3 years and now have owned my GS for over a year. Pledge was used on all of them. It makes the paint pop like nothing else and collects dust well.
I also have used it on every motorcycle I have owned since about 1980. If your worried about the pledge hurting the paint, it won't. The only people who will tell you not to use it or the ones that love to spend $$$$ on detailing stuff and people who work for the big name companies that sell fancy detailing stuff.

Pledge is the best thing I ever used for minor detailing of the paint and it is also the least expensive product I have ever used.
