Who has painted the barrels of their wheels
I want to paint the barrels of the chrome wheels on my white coupe, but not sure of color to use (black or silver). Please show pics of your wheels if you painted the barrels. I am sure that there are earlier posts on this subject, but I can't find them. Thanks.

Go black, especially with chrome rims, it really makes em' pop!

I am leaning towards black. Silver paint would give them an understated look. Thanks.

I lightly sanded the flat grey, masked off the chrome, and rattle-can painted my barrels a semi gloss black. The dust does not show as bad and easer to clean.

You also have the option of stripping the OEM gray paint off the wheels and exposing the chrome underneath.
Do a test using Plasti-Dip to evaluate colors.

Burning Brakes
Has anyone tried removing the factory paint from the barrels, cleaning and polishing the barrels, and then just clearcoating them so that they're sealed? I wonder if doing that and then putting a couple of coats of wax on them would make them easy to maintain and keep them (almost?) as shiny as the rest of the wheel.
I'm asking if anyone has done this to their wheels because I just got a used set of replica chrome spyders and the barrels are not painted. I'm going to give them a good cleaning and then try the clearcoat and wax/polish. If it doesn't work well then painting the barrels will be a project for next winter.

sorry no pics. had them painted last year. Recommend using Black semi-gloss. I also had the entire wheel glass-coated - which made a huge difference with the brake dust.
Mine is an '07 and it was easily the best answer to have a consistent look.

I like your idea of exposing the chrome on the barrels as long as the chrome looks good. Are you pretty sure that the OEM chrome wheels have chrome barrels?
Thanks,

I'll try to dig up one of the old threads on this, there's been several.
Here you go. Well documented with many good pics.
The chrome on the barrels is not as nice as the chrome on the face of the wheel. Same thing with my chromed CCW wheels.
If you don't like the chrome you still have the option of new paint.
I recommend you coat the wheels with Rejex. Protects the finish and makes it easier to clean the brake dust off.
