Solid top ease of use?
Hi
What is the difference in weight and ease of use between the C-6 & the C-5's top solid or plexi?
Thanks
Alan

If I had to guess, I would say that my solid top (C6) is heavier than my friends C5 top. This does not mean that it is more difficult to use.
Surely some one more knowledgable than me will chime in on this.

I've only had mine in and out a few times and there is definitely a technique to it. Whether it's heavier or not i don't know
If arm strength (as we age) is difficult it might be best to always have help.

I can tell you that the 'glass' top is easy to lift (take off and replace) by one person. I'm sure it has to be lighter than the solid top.

I can confirm that the glass top is much lighter on a C6 than the solid top. I can also confirm that any C6 top is lighter and easier to manuever than the C5 version. That being said, it is still a PiA to align and push the back of the C6 top into the pin alignment holes. Easier with 2 people but can be done solo.

Unless you are petite and wear a skirt, pulling and replacing the top on a corvette is a snap. It's just bulkier, not heavy.
As for pulling and replacing the top, just pop the levers, open one of the door, reach in with one hand under the top from the open door side, one hand on the top of the top, and it as easy to manage as a piece of cardboard. The front comes up, then you pull forward to get the two rear prongs out of the receiver sockets for them. To put back in, back prongs going to the sockets first, then you push the front down; remembering to latch the latches again so you don't Kite the top as you drive away (read get in the car and latch the latches as soon as you place the top back on, and not leave latching the latches later when you plan on getting in the car and driving away later).
Trust is, the only time is gets a tad harder, is when the top is blazing hot, and you want to glove up before grabbing it.

I have both tops and the glass top is about half the weight of the solid. I take my glass top off in the summer because of the heat build up here in the Deep South.

To add to the list.......
I'm 71, and have no trouble removing and replacing my solid top to the '08. Bulky yes, heavy no.
It's just a matter of utilizing a routine. I think the Owners Manual has a "how to", which I believe is the method I use.
Essentially drop the visors and windows, unclip the front then the rear. I lift from the drivers side and place in the retention bracket of the already opened truck. Reinstall by reversing the process.

I have the solid top and have it on and off all the time, takes about 30 seconds start to finish and is a breeze. My only advice is to pick up a pair of gloves to use for the summer since the tops gets hot when it's sitting in a parking lot all day.
