Default Advice on 2008 purchase

I have been looking around and have decided to look seriously at purchasing a 2008 vette....it's on my bucket list...so need some help.

Item I know I don't want: Manuel, Colors - Black, Silver, Orange (they just are not my favorites)
Item I know I want: Automatic - Yellow, Red, Blue, White

So my need for advice - what would the Corvette community tell me to purchase to provide the best experience. Not a "need for more speed" person. It seems the going price here in the Texas Dealer community for a 2008 is $32K for a coup with 40-50K miles. That is without hagling. SUPER THANKS in advance for your advice!!

If you are looking at a 2008, there aren't a lot of choices to be made. Coupe, convertible, or Z06. Once you decide which model you want, you need to decide what options you want on it, such as HUD, Navigation, etc. Good luck in your search.

Where in Tx are you?

That "going price" of $32,000 has to cover a car that sold new for anywhere from aprx. $49,000 to aprx. $65,000, add even more for a Z06.

The price SHOULD depend on options as much as on mileage and condition. A 3LT with a premium color, optional wheels, Z51, etc, etc, etc. is worth MUCH more than a White 1LT w/ silver split spoke wheels.

Make sure you get the options if you are paying the dollars.

For $32K, you should be able to get a 2008 with the color and options that you prefer. You will get a better price on a coupe than a convertible.
I bought a 3yr old car, with 12K, yellow auto, fully loaded (NAV, Z51 3LT)
for 34K back in 2009 (recession). It's doable, but it may take some time to find that perfect match.
It took me 6 months, but I'm glad I didn't compromise and stuck to what I really wanted.

Good Luck

Unless you are looking for a spanish 08,you will not find a manuel anywhere..however you will find manual's around. As for 32 grand for a 50,000 mile 08 that is way way overpriced. At that price you should be at about 10,000 miles for a 4lt package at that!Even that is a little on the high side at this point in time. Automatics are out there.Try autotrader.com or cars.com or even the for sale section on here.

You will probably want and be happiest with a 3LT equipment group car. That gives you all the bells and whistles, except Nav, that was available for comfort. They introduced the new 4LT group in 2008 which is just a 3LT but with a full "leather wrap" interior. You might not have to pay much if any more for a 4LT if you can find one.

The only other real choice you need to decide on is the suspension system. Do you want the standard "soft ride" version, the upgraded F55 Magnetic Selective Ride Control or the high performance Z51 (stiff springs and shock absorbers)?

If you haven't already, look through the 2008 order guide and familiarize yourself with the various option packages that were available. Click on this link
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...questions.html
and scroll down a little bit and the factory order guides are there for each model year. Beyond that, buying a used Vette is not a lot different than buying any other used car, except it should be a lot more fun.

Lots of folks will say that 32k for what you are looking is way to high but that would be what I would want for my 2008 2lt auto with 42k. I would not recommend anything less than a 2lt and the 3lt is a well equipped car and should be available in your price range.

I would recommend NOT looking at dealers but rather things like this Forum in the For Sale section and autotrader.com. And maybe don't limit yourself to Texas. Don't be in a rush and in particular learn what each car is worth before you start any haggling. If there is a local Corvette club you might want to meet them and ask a lot of questions, which is what I did before my purchase of a 2012 red coupe.

Good luck and be patient

My 08 1LT cost. Me $39,000 in December of 07, right before the new year.

It has everything I wanted and actually a little more.

$32,000 is ridiculously high for 40,000 + miles.

Look for a 1LT it is really nicely equipped already.

I would never rule out anything and miss out on an amazing deal or car. When I went looking I was hoping to get a Z but thought I might go with a newer base model. Only wanted dark blue would take black or red liked the yellow and orange but not sure. Then a great deal came along on a Z loaded 63000kms about 40000 miles. But it was silver I took it for a ride I was hooked my fiance said she wasnt big into silver but gave it clean lines. After a couple days I cant go near it without a big smile on my face. Every one I see now I enjoy seeing and would be happy to have as my own.I wouldnt rule out stick as that eliminates the Z right off the bat. The C6 rules the sexy model of corvette and it gets more attention than my 73 vert did. I thought it was cause its a Z but most dont even know what that is lol.I think this will be the last gen for the sexy curves and GM nailed the look so look at them all.
