How long did you wait for your 1st Corvette?
#102
When I was a teenager I had a Pontiac Trans Am (1976, 455 ci, 4 speed) so Corvettes were the "enemy" lol. That car went away when I got married in 1985 and I had a long period of "regular" cars.
I think I started "wanting" a Corvette about 2005 or so. I had planned to buy a C3 when I retired from the Navy in 2009. But since we moved to NH, I needed to buy a 4wd for the winters. By 2014 we had moved back south and I finally got a Corvette (a 2008 coupe, I had decided to go with a newer car for more creature comforts).
I traded that this year for a 2011 Grand Sport convertible. I am so happy, the best car I have ever had!

Bought my first Vette when I was 22. It was a 1966 Convertible, 4 spd 300 hp 327.
Was the worst car I had ever owned, but I loved it. Broke crankshaft in engine, pinion bearing came loose and busted rear axle housing, transmission was out of Chevelle and did not work great. I got everything in good order and loved it. Swapped a co-worker for his 71 Steel Cities gray Convertible 4 speed, 350 with air. Great car!

I fell in love with Corvettes when I was around seven (1975). I asked for one from Santa that year and received a Hot Wheels of that version (C3) in my stocking. I have been dreaming of this day for a long time and have always put other priorities before this selfish act. Well, being that I will be 47 in November, I finally decided to treat myself. I found a low-miles 2012 Centennial and fell in love with it. I had it shipped to me in Albuquerque and have enjoyed the hell out of it for the past four days. I was very emotional upon its delivery, more so than I thought I would be. This is a wonderful car and I am humbled to finally be part of this family and community of faithful drivers.

I was five years old, and my parents asked me my favorite food....Doritos, and my favorite car....Corvette. That was in '72. When I was nineteen, I started saving money for flight school. Once my bank account got to the magic number needed to buy a new Corvette, I had to talk myself out of it and continue to focus on my goal. You know, the parable about growing an apple tree to eventually pick your own apples... I often said to myself (to ease the pain) that I'd rather drive a Chevette and fly a helicopter than drive a Corvette and make Widgets all day.
As others have eluded, many more important chapters found their way in my book of life, and the Corvette dream faded. But, as fate would have it, and philosophy, I came to the conclusion that life does not start at a certain time, but rather right now. After all, this isn't a practice life, is it? So about 27 years after beginning to save that money, I bought my GS. Now I fly helicopters and drive a Corvette. It's the best of both worlds. The only thing that's changed is Doritos are no longer my favorite food.

As my name says, my first Vette was a 2003 C5. My second Vette is my current C6 2013. I was aware of Corvettes as a teenager. I was 59 when I got the 2003 so say age 15 from 59 I waited 44 years.

The very first car I ever "drove" was a white C3 when I was 14.
This was for a Youth-Group car wash fundraiser at my church. I "drove" it to where the cars were to be picked up when done. I still can't believe he left it there to be washed and then walked over to where the donuts were.
I hate, now, to think what damage we did with our dirty rags and sloppy techniques.

My whole life, from the time I got my drivers license in 74 I've been driving vetttes, from a 69 4sp to a 08 coupe, I've driven um all. Never did own one, I'd see one on a lot and pull in and test drive it.
Growin up in tri states New York, just had small used lots around, went in the military, was stationed in riverside, CA. There was a huge auto mart in town, every dealer imaginable, I'd spend a whole weekend, looking at cars, test driving whatever I could. I was in heaven, lol.
Two years ago I bought my first vette, 99 FRC, and you can imagine how geeked I am everytime I get in it.
She's old, bunch a miles, but she's mine. Dream come true

Just curious. Did anyone wait as long as I did?
I saw my first Corvette, (a new 1958), in 1958.
It was a high school graduation gift to a guy I knew who was 17 years old. I was 15 at the time.
It was given to him by his wealthy contractor father.
As you can imagine, everyone in school was seething with jealousy!
After raising a family, paying for several houses and mortgages, putting 2 girls through college, etc., etc., I finally got my first 'vette delivered in January, 2013.
A brandy new Grand Sport. It took me 55 years to realize the dream.
I'm certain most of you didn't have to wait nearly that long.
I'm still smilin' ....

Because my dad was an auto mechanic, I grew up around cars. I knew of the Corvette almost from the time it arrived in 1953, but I never really had any desire to own one. Shortly after graduating from High School, a friend of mine bought a brand new 427 Cobra. Now that's the car I fell in love with. By 1974 my friend was ready to sell the Cobra and gave me first shot at it. I could have bought that car for $7000. But in 1974, $7000 was a little more than I could put together, so I had to pass on it.
It wasn't until 2009 at age 62 that I even considered a Corvette. I bought my first one, a 2003 Z06, that year. Just this last March I traded that in on my current 2008 base C6

I was 22 yrs old when I bought a 1969 Stingray convertible in 1984.
I have always loved them since about age 10, so I guess I waited about 12 years. However I'm not sure waited is the right term, since I wasn't eligible to drive until age 16? So it took me 5 years to go from my first car, a 1971 Camaro to the Corvette.

This thread is great.
As a child who grew up loving cars, I was intrigued by Vettes from a young age. I first realized my interest in them when I saw a nasty red C5 coupe in DC when I was 20. I bought my first personal Vette at the age of 27, a yellow 03. I promptly modded everything.
I bought my second one this year, on the week after my 30th birthday - a blue 06. I still have the C5.

I fell in love with Vettes when I was 15 in 1964.. I guess I waited until I was 23 and made the move after my 18 yo wife of 10 months took a thousand mile hike to never return.. I went and bought a used 1969 coupe. white with a 350 hp 350 ci 4 spd..Many girls in that car.. I drove it daily for 3 years.. I bought my next one march this year.. 05 C6...1 girl in this car... Never missed the wild azzed ex wife but I still miss the 69 coupe.

I purchased my first Corvette, a '69 L36 427/390hp M21 4 speed car, in 2003 when I was 58 years old. I was never really a big Corvette enthusiast, but this car turned me around. Kept it till I was 65 and needed some money and I auctioned it at Monterey, CA.
BTW, that's a tree reflecting off my right headlight door in the photo, not a paint flaw. That thing won it's class in shows and once even "Best Paint Job" in a show in Los Altos, CA. I'm 71 now and one year into my second Corvette and lovin' it.
