Default Wipe Bugs off....Woolite vs. Fabric softerner Sheet with pic.

Ok, I conducted a test on my wife's car, which doesn't get half the love and affection the Vette gets. The bugs were old and dried on the car.

I've read where Woolite and fabric softener sheets work well. So I decided to test them both.

Picture 1. The pictures reflect one half done with a solution of Woolite 2 parts water 1 part Woolite. Sprayed on the car, let set for 15 seconds, warm wet wash cloth and the bugs simply wiped away. Very little effort and scrubbing. On stubborn ones I sprayed a little on the cloth and worked it. Again not scrubbing with force just gentle rubbing and those too came right off. Rinse with wet cloth and you can see the difference.

Pictures 2 & 3. Using a fabric softener sheet dunked in warm water I rubbed the car. It too removed the bugs with little effort. But, the sheet it self is course and adds to the scrubbing. There were no scratches that I could see even where I worked the stubborn ones off. Rinse and dry.

Again, this was done on a car that does not see regular washing and waxing. I'm convinced that when traveling a small bottle of Woolite will keep your cars clean and "fresh" with Woolite. That is my choice after doing this "unofficial" experiment.

So, on the NCM Caravan and other trips...it's Woolite for me.

Oh, and wife was really happy with the results. If the wife is happy life is good.

I was amazed at how easy they come off using both applications. Either way it's a lot less expensive and works as described verses expensive waxes and so forth.

I love threads like this, never heard of either solution before but you can bet I'm trying it now! Very cool, thanks for sharing.

I too tried the fabric sheet trick after hearing about it years ago. Don't do this on a dark colored car. It does scratch. That along with the bug guts does leave hazing and scratches. You may not care or see it on a light colored car. I have always used a wet towel and left it on the bugs in the sun for a while. Then wash with a micro fiber and soap dunking frequently to get bug guts off wash pad. I am all for the woolite method!

I use a bug sponge from auto geek, it works like a champ and doesn't scratch. The only down side is you have to pretty much already be washing the car.

I didn't know Corvettes looked like Fords now.

I must have missed something.

I'm laughing at your intellect........yes the Ford is my Wife's car....Baaaa

As stated, and I have a dark car (CRM), and don't think the fabric softener sheet (Drier Sheet) is the best choice. Woolite solution, warm water and micro fiber towel.

I to have Xpel Ultimate film on the front, and feel that it will be safe. Reason, you spray it on, wait 15 sec, and wipe off. If I find out different, I will be sure to post up. But for now, it is woolite and warm water for me during long trips.

I just use my detail spray and micro fiber. I do the nose last and spray it down and lay the wet micro fiber on the worst section...wait a few mins or so and wipe them off. Then I do the wheels and throw the micro fiber in a bucket to be washed and used in the house. Always use a new MF on the car.

I use a product we use for our big trucks, it manufactured by Fra-Ber and it's called Uno. It goes on diluted 50-1 with a sprayer, let set for 5 minutes and spray off, takes everything off, bugs, tar spots, etc. and leaves the paint nice and shiny. Works really well on wheel wells, wheel barrels and fender tar also, as well as under-car.

I just soak the bugs for a couple minutes using warm/hot water. Once they soften up they wipe right off with almost zero effort.

Fabric sheets ARE abrasive, and they WILL cause marring/swirling of the clear.

I use a "dobie" and soapy water when I'm washing the car. (A "dobie" is a small sponge that is covered with some sort of nylon-like mesh. 3 in a box at K-Mart for $3.99. My wife uses them for dishes and when they get a little worn I give her a new one and the worn one goes to my wash bucket.). Have been doing this for years with no ill effects that I've noticed.

I'll try the Woolite and dryer sheet though... Sounds like a great idea!

Default Side-effect?

Will the Woolite solution take off a coat of wax, or a coat of Rejex? Dawn dishwashing detergent is recommended for taking OFF wax in preparation for clay barring, polishing, etc. before re-waxing, re-Rejexing or re-Zainoing.

Please don't use "dobies" or dryer sheets or any other horrible ideas on your cars. They ARE damaging the paint.
