First off were not talking about BMW's or comparing steering on cars. Were comparing steering AMONG corvettes nothing else. If you think the slop in the 05-07 cars is no different than the 08+ your arms are numb or you own a 05-07 and are justifying having it.

Anne...you drove both cars, did the '08 feel "a few thousand dollars" better than the '06?
If not...get the '06 and spend the money on mods.

Damn, perhaps I am numb from the waist both ways, but I have an '05 6spd, Z51 equipped vert and an '11 6spd, GS vert and, in normal driving, if I was blindfolded (nice trick) I could not tell which one I was driving.
Aw, man...I can feel it coming and it's gonna hurt.

Bose system with nav has a single disc CD player; without nav it has a 6 disc changer.

I actually liked the 08 better, first non Z51 I've driven. I have offers in on both cars whoever speaks first wins & hopefully so do I. I won't do Mods other than eventually yank the radio on the non NAV & put in user friendly NAV with Bluetooth Etc. Anne

I would say take the one you like better. I have an 08 vert 3LT, no Z51, no Nav that I bought recently. I test drove everything from about 1998s to 2011s with all combos of packages including a Lingenfelter. My racing days are over and I wanted something to enjoy and did not want Z51 after driving several and don't really need the extra horses of the LS3. My phone and my Garmin are better than the Nav option. I would have been happy with the right 07 or older, but as pointed out there are other improvements in the 08 that should be considered for overall enjoyability and for possible resale value. As stated in so many words above and in many other threads, choose the one you like that meets your criteria with the lowest miles and is the newest you can afford.

Where did you get this quote? I never said anything about a BMWs and have never owned one. You should go back to my posts and use my quotes not someone else's. Secondly, I could own any Corvette I wanted up to and including a 2015 z06. Because I chose not to overspend on toys has nothing to do with justifying a purchase. I happen to love my 05 LS2. Great car and a better price. Quite drinking the 08 and above coolaid. Sounds like you are trying to justify your purchase.

I don't think there is a point to chasing HP unless you are going to track it, race around town or are willing pay a ton of money to MOD the engine.

Having the LS2 with 400+ HP is more then I will ever use so there is no need for a heavy duty transmissions/differential etc.... There was no way I was going without HUD, heated seats, upgraded stereo, Mem seats but I was not going to pay more than I wanted to get them.

It's comes down to what is important to you. A low mileage 05-07 is not so much older than an 08 to really make much of a difference and the exterior is the same from 05 to 13.
Buy the options. You are going to live with them a lot more than 30 more HP and save a few grand as well. But Like Rusty I could have bought a new one if I chose to but my limit was $30K for a new toy so I bought the one with the most options I could get for the money I wanted to spend with the least miles. I may sell it in a year if I lose interest.

As far as resale they will both depreciate whatever you pay more for the 08 you may get back. If I could have bought an 08 with everything except Magnetic Drive I have on mine for the same money, would have. I would not have bought an 08 based solely on steering and HP I don't drive in a manner where I would notice either. The Z51 was for resale and a bonus. I would have bought the car without it.

Seems you would be happy with either and it all comes down to who gives you the better deal. Nothing wrong with that. What happened with the blue Vert wth 8K miles for $33K?

I have an 08 with nav and z51. As far as the navigation I don't even use it. On one occasion when I did use the nav it was sending me in a wrong direction. I'll stick with my Garmin Nuvi with lifetime updates. Like others have stated or have done on this forum I plan to eventually change out the head unit for something that includes both a better nav system and blue tooth.
One thing to consider is what type of driving are you going to do. By that I mean consider how much space you'll give up with the convertible. I say that because I drive my vette and when I take a road trip with luggage etc I like the room of the coupe. The roof comes off easily enough. I have a great time driving around "topless".
As far as the Z51 package I can not say if it would make a difference to me as I have not drove a C6 without the Z51 option. It was not a priority but since the car I bought had the option and everything else I wanted in a Corvette I find I like it. Better brakes, stiffer suspension etc.
the bottom line for me would be what type of driving are you going to be doing. Like others have stated, either car I'm sure you'll enjoy.

I've had a help from a forum member who chooses to remain anonymous. When the blue was lifted he showed me something under the front end I really didn't want to see.

This forum has been a lifesaver for me. My wait should be over soon.

thanks again Anne

Care to share what you saw for those who might be looking?. Always helps to know what to look for. Was it hit? I agree the forum is phenomenal. but have to be careful about pricing opinions. I would not have a Vette if i went with some of the pricing opinion. I would still be looking and I am not the type to take a year and travel far and wide to "find a price"

To be honest! a corvette will be fun to drive no matter a 06 or an 08. My dad has a 06 Corvette and an 08 Z06 and he says he gets more compliments in the 06 Base corvette then his Z06. He told me that if He would have to choose between a 07-07 for 25,000 or an 08 for 32,000-35,000 he would go with the base model 06-07 based on that your saving a ton of money and any remaining money you can you on exterior mods or engine mods. 30 HP is kind of a lot but its not worth almost 10K more IMO.

Remember the saying"it's all good"? This especially applies to C6 Corvettes. Let your heart decide, put the top down.... and don't forget to wave.

Not sure I understand what you mean by was it hit? No damage to either.

It all boils down to whether I want a 2008 Convertible with 3LT ,Automatic , & polished wheels, or a 2006 with the same options as the 08, plus the Z51 & Navigation. The 08 without the Z51 & Navigation is $3,000 more.

If I can put the deal together I will do the 2008, hopefully if I can afford a C7 in a few years I won't lose most of the $3,000 extra, if only I knew.

After I do a deal I will give more details/specifics.

Thanks Anne

Corvette I would have to have is the one with Z51. Other than that, the year, options, wouldn't matter to me. You'll be getting a great sports car either way, good luck and enjoy.

The Nav is not all that. I just bought the latest NAV disc on Ebay for $99. Its much better than the 05 disc but the NAV system is nothing like a Garmin. I would change mine out but I don't want to lose the HUD NAV and keep the car original. The Z51 is worth it though. Beefier brakes and suspension is always a good thing.

We were wondering what was wrong with the blue Vert with 8K you saw under the car?

The "slop" steering system is fundamentally identical. Don't listen to rubbish like that. Always stick to your budget and what your heart says you MUST have.

With that said, 2008+ cars do have a nicer transmission and 30 more horsepower. 30 horsepower in terms of modding may as well be a sneeze. If you don't plan to mod, buy the newest your budget allows. The TR6060 transmission is quite nice, however. Unlikely you'll ever notice the HP difference, which is what all these clowns love to pronounce.

I can say the Z51 package does add quite a bit to the fun factor, but Ii also drive my car close to its limits here and there.

I think the confusion was your first comment When the blue was lifted he showed me something under the front end I really didn't want to see. then your second comment above.
Unless there was damage they should both look alike "under the front end".
