My gf has a 2012 mustang. It's a nice car, just feels like a sherman tank compared to the Corvette. I think it looks sharp, rides nice, and turns decently. Now the 2015's I have seen running around detroit look like a downgrade in my eyes. Its almost like the car is too long.

I believe they pick up 15 hp, but 86lbs. Either way, an LS3 vette is going to beat it up on a course and pull away in a straight line. You are really comparing 2 different types of cars and I think you know what way this forum is going to swing.

GL either way!

Well, there is one of each in my family. My C6, and the Wifey's '13 Mustang GT. First off their both fun to drive in their own ways. And there is a difference. Both cars have been very reliable, but both have approx the same mileage at 17,000. IMHO the best thing to do is drive both. Your gut, and the smile on your face will tell you which to buy. I don't think you would be disappointed with your choice either way as long as it's your choice. BTW, you got a good woman that will let you get the one you want. Good luck.

I've considering Mustangs over the years, never pulled the trigger on one. I have owned several Camaro's including a few first gens and a 3rd gen. And I've owned 3 vettes.

I would say if you want a sports car, get the C6 because the mustang is a muscle car which is very different from a sports car. The only real advantage to the Mustang or a car like it in daily use is they are easier to park and maneuver in tight parking lots. Vette is low, long hood with overhang and has very long doors - so you have to learn where you can park it, where the stang is much easier to deal with in that respect.

From a driving standpoint, I much prefer a vette to a Mustang - I haven't driven a '15 of course, but have driven the 5.0 models. From an interior standpoint, I think both cars will be a step down from a BMW quite frankly. If you want a BMW level quality comparable sports car / hot rod I would look at the E92 M3's, which can be found for $40K but not with a warrantee. I daily drive an E39 M5 btw, and have owned at least as many BMW's as hot rod / sports car chevys. And yes - the C6 interior leaves a lot to be desired. Now that said, I think the '10+ is a better starting point with a nicer seats and steering wheel and radio. And for a couple more $K you can upgrade the leather seats and add a few other nice touches that will at least get you closer to the BMW in look and feel. Still, a C6 is a much more raw car than a BMW no matter how you slice it. But that is also part of what I like about them, of course, I don't daily drive mine either.

A two-seat, world-class sports car vs. another "Ho-hum" 4-seat family sedan?

Thanks for all the thoughts. I'm really thinking the C6 is the way I want to go but going to have to drive one. Then the start of the year start slowly looking for want that is like I want. I dont mind traveling a couple hundred miles to pick up the right one ether.

I thinking ether White or Black as my prior choice. I do like the yellow but wife keeps telling me having a yellow car will get old... I would be happy with silver/grey as well but its what I currently have and think I'm in the mood for a change. I would have to be a manual and as I said I was leaning towards a GS but would be happy with a coupe. I like the idea of having a targa and a 08+ for the 6.2 LS3.

I would like HUD & heated seats. What other options are good to look for when I start looking?

I can't speak for you but personally I've never been as underwhelmed with a car's launch as I was with the 2015 Mustang.

As someone noted above, the C6 is a sports car. The 2015 GT is a pony car. You'll just have to decide what it is you want. Let us know what you get, and show us some pics!

EDIT: Ah, just saw your mind is pretty much made up. Good call! I still have an inner grin every time I fire my baby up and it's been coming up on a year since I bought her. You're definitely smart to look for 2008+. If you want Bluetooth built in with extra sound deadening, get a 2009 or above. Other features to look for? Definitely get the HUD. Once you drive with it you'll find yourself missing it on other cars. Additionally, my car has the F55 magnetic suspension and I love it. The previous owner added Z51 sway bars so I have the best of both worlds. I wouldn't make the nav a make-or-break proposition since the UI is incredibly dated and many folks just get new units anyway.

You came to the Corvette forum to ask this question. Granted, I haven't read the whole thread, but I think that fact alone means you want the push and have made up your mind

oh you have to get a red one, all Corvettes are red donchya know!

I had a black C6 and I was not thrilled with the quality of the paint. I had a red C5 which was really nice and now a Lemans Metallic Blue which is also really nice. I am not into white Corvette's personally, but to each his own there! I agree that yellow may get old. Some of the grays and darker silvers are pretty cool, IMHO.

Just got out of an almost 15 year relationship with a 99 Cobra Mustang. Bilstein suspension and bunches of other stuff. Tracked it some. Even with the mods, the turn-in on the Vette is so much nicer and the ride may be better. I'm sure the 2015 will be better in almost every respect except weight. That is another nice thing about the Vette, it's just so much lighter and stiffer.

Anyway, I'm happy (2011 GS).

I had a mustang GT!! I can tell you, there is no comparison!!! I have a 2005 Z51 LS2, that would blast my old GT out of the water!!! Speed, handling, brakes, better ride, Better radio, Better seats, better interior, Most of all, Better LOOKS!!!And if you go C6, A better value!! The LS2 and LS3 motor rips, and 2008-2013 is in your price range. I've even seen some Z06's for $40K+. The C6 LS3 will stomp a 2015 mustang All around!!! Like my dad use to say? Mustangs and Camaros are the cheap mans corvette. Mine has a 3 Year warranty because it only had 26K miles !!! Tell your wife a 2005-2013 will defiantly have a warranty available, depending on the miles!! Most corvettes have low miles anyways. Most are toy's but also make a great daily driver as well!! Make the smart move! Get a corvette!! The ONLY thing, I miss about the mustang is the back seats, at certain times????But I have no regrets!!!

Another biased opinion, FWIW:

My best buddy has an '09 Shelby Mustang with about 600 horse. I've never driven it but don't even really care to. I have an '07 C6 with stock LS2. I have a luxury (3LT) sexy-looking sports car that is pretty quick no matter the circumstances. He has an unremarkable-looking sedan that is very fast in a straight line (after it gets out of the hole).

I've never really noticed other Shelbys on the road until he got his. At least now I do notice them . . . sometimes . . . if they're close enough.

But Corvettes have been turning my head for 60 years. From any distance.

A few weeks ago I took my sister's girlfriend for a ride (she is in her late 60s). Afterwards she said something like, "Bruce, you know I really don't care or know anything about cars, but this car is beautiful." She even took a couple pix of it.

I really don't think she would have said that if I had a Mustang. Attachment 48363860

I don't have a thing against a Mustang. I like them a lot and I wouldn't mind owning a maxed out GT, but it's not in the same category as a Corvette period.

As far as warranty goes, my 2012 is still under factory warranty bumper to bumper for a while longer and then the 5 year 100,000 mile drive train warranty will still be in effect for the big items if something should go wrong. C6 Corvettes have been around for a while and if you get a 2012 or 2013 there shouldn't be any problems since the engineering has solved any issues with this version over the years. The 2013 will be your best bet if you can find what you want in your price range as far as the warranty is concerned. I couldn't be happier with my 2012 GS and so far the only issue i've had is I ran over a large screw and I had to have one of my tires plugged. Corvettes are reliable cars and they are not prone to expensive problems.

You are right about the heated seats coming in the 3LT or 4LT packages and be sure to get the GPS radio system whichever model you decide on if you go for the Corvette. Of course this is a biased opinion from me, but there's no question which way i'd go and it's Corvette all the way.

You came to the right place because you are going to get a completely unbiased opinion from us

Ok in all seriousness… I like mustangs, Challengers, Camaro’s etc…new and old and have owned or extended driven all of them. No doubt the Corvette is at the top of the food chain in my mind.

I am in the same dilemma.
Having owned Mustangs in the past - most recently a new 2005 when that restyle came out- I know what they bring to the table.
And not being one to keep any car for a long time - I have been looking to replace my 2011 for a year now.
I was disappointed to find the C7 too tight - but know the Mustangs have always had lots of head & legroom.
Forget the Mustang is equal to a Camaro BS - & give it a serious consideration.
I know I will - as soon as I can sit in one!

Find the example of each that you like and drive each enough to see which one does it for you. They're two different kinds of cars and will have different strong points.
Good luck!
