Default Opinions on these Optima Redtops

As of now I have an Autozone Duralast battery and I am not a fan of it. Seems to be under powered for my cold cranking amps sometimes. I use to have a redtop for my C5 Z06 that gave me no problems, but was sold with the car and it was a side post and not a top post like my C6 Z06.

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=729122_0_0_

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=310357_0_0_

and this is what I have right now

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...6425_631184_0_

Would going higher on the cold cranking amps be a bad thing for my starter? I am going to return my Autozone battery back for a full refund and I aslo have $80 in rewards for autozone that I will put towards my Optima battery. So I will only be paying about $30 out of pocket.

I put a red top in my C5 when the old battery was going out, and recently put a yellow top in my C6 when it died. From what i have read if your car is a daily driver a red top is the better choice, if your car is NOT a DD then maybe a yellow top is for you. Optima does make good batteries though.

Buy an Odyssey, Optima has been less than they were originally since they were bought out and production moved to Mexico years ago.

720 CCA is more than enough to start your engine. If its not turning over fast enough, there are a few things that could be wrong, the battery is defective and not producing its rated output, the starter and or battery cables are not good, the ground is not good, or there is something not right with your engine placing excessive demand on the starting system. However, If the regular battery you have spins your engine over normally, then the Optima my well be the suspect ! Good luck.

My 1st red top lasted about 8 years on 3 different cars. I bought my 2nd one last year when the AC/Delco died in my Vette and no issues.

I would recommend an Optima.

The extra CCA will not hurt your starter at all. The extra amps are just available if needed. Extra voltage would be a different story.

I can not figure out why folks here buy yellow tops for normal duty. It seems more people here buy yellow tops. Probably cuz they cost more than the red top. Add $40 for the "premium model" of anything and Corvette owners will buy it every time.

Or else it's because Sam's stocks the yellow top but not the red top. The red top has more CCA. The yellow top is better for deep cycle - i.e. if you participate in biggass car stereo competions where you run it for hours, discharging, and then recharge. Or if you have a trolling motor in your Corvette.

The red top is a good choice. I bought mine online from BatteryMart and the price was better than the local Autozone. Delivered to my front porch.

I had 2 red tops before I ended up with the yellow top. Unfortunately I had a brain malfunction blaming my batteries for something that turned out to be my BAP overloading the fuel pump relay and fuse block which had to be replaced. Long story and missed diagnosis on my part. Moral is my original red top would still be in the car and 5 years old.

Well I do have an aftermarket sound system in my car that includes a 10" sub, 2 amps, headunit and 6 new speakers. I basically do drive it every day. Sometimes it will sit for more than a day or two.

What would you guys recommend the Red or the Yellow?

Just bought an Optima Redtop from Advanced Auto. Bought it online using Coupon Code TRT30. Took 30% off up to $50. So, I got a $212 battery for $162. Picked it up at my local store. Not sure how long the coupon is good for.
Only had the battery installed for a week, so can't comment on long term performance. But I'm always up for saving $$$$

Another satisfied Red Top customer. Normal batteries seems to last me about 2 years. I bought a Red Top for my C4 and had it installed for 10 years and then it finally went. Replaced it with another of course. Bought one for the C6 when the OEM battery went last year.

If you have the car parked for days, I strongly suggest a trickle charger like a Battery Tender. Really helps the battery live a lot longer.

Well I can return my Duralast Battery for 100% refund as long as it is good. It is only under a year too. So that $135 + tax & core will go towards the battery. Plus I have $80 on a rewards card to add as well. The battery is $209.99. So I should walk away without paying anything out of pocket.

I looked into them, but my car is mainly parked outside the garage and also my batter is in the back. Not under the hood. Def don't want to leave my car parked outside with the trunk unlatched.

I've always used the Red Top in both my Corvettes with good results. One of the first things I did when I got my C6 was to swap out the original (six-year old) battery for the Optima.

It's never failed me yet.

Can you get an extension cord near your car? I have my battery tender wires run under the hood and they poke out through the front grill. Yours would definitely be more of a challenge since it's in back, but I'm sure a solution exists. Check with the Z06 guys. I'd bet they have come up with a solution.

I replaced my first RED top at 5 1/2 years. It was still going strong I just didn't want to have a problem. I replaced it with another RED top. I have a YELLOW top in our Lexus RX350.

True testament to a battery's quality are those of us who never use a battery tender and the car still fires up every time. I'll stick with my cheapo Everstart from Walmart. I've left my car sitting for 2 months in the winter and still cranked up without any issue whatsoever when i wanted to go for a drive.
