MRC Shocks BAD
Anyone who is still under warranty, pull the wheels and check your MRC shocks. I have a 2012 GS at 7K both front shocks were replaced for leaking. Took it back to the dealer today with 17K on it now both rear shocks are bad, dealer had to order new ones.
I had the same setup on my 2005 got 7 years and 65K the shocks looked great the day I sold it. The difference the shocks on the 05 were made in the USA. The shocks on the 2012 are made in Mexico by someone who bought the company and moved it. Where is the QC GM
do you have people checking the parts you install? Would like to know how many others are finding bad MRC shocks now, before you never heard of problems with them.

What's your production date? I ask because I also have a '12 GS (Aug 25th). Could be a bad batch (seals) from the vendor. I'm just over 40K on the clock; no issues.....yet

I have a 12 GS with MRC shocks also. All 4 shocks leaked. Since GM warranty does not cover my area and the replacement was too expensive, I replaced them with regular shocks and used simulators to fool the sensors.

I did see a thread that the shocks may look like they're leaking but actually collecting some moisture and oil on the outside. See if you can find the thread since there was a pretty good (or logical) explanation for it. Not saying this is yours or everyone's case.

Jim:
Out of curiosity, did this begin with you reporting some symptom of failing shocks to the dealer? Or did the dealer just say "they're bad"? Guess I'm not totally trusting of dealers who make a profit by finding problems, especially when the oil film issue is a known non-problem.

Condensation & dust can accumulate on the outside of the shocks--looks like a leak. Need to thoroughly clean-off
the shock and re-inspect afterwards (my own experience w/reputable local dealer).

Hello All
The fronts, I saw that our local tire shop was doing inspections for free and there was no one there. So I though why not, they put it up on the rack and the guy found both front shocks leaking. This was not just a little wet they had oil running down the shock. Took it to my dealer and they changed both shocks
The backs, took the vette over to discount tire for new rubber they pulled off the tires and I had 2 rear shocks leaking, not quite as bad as the fronts had been but not just a little damp. Dealer is replacing them
As for how much leak in OK I had an 05 with the same shocks (made in the USA) at 7 years and over 60K there was NO leak from them. So you have to wonder if GM isn't saying some leak is OK to save a few bucks, just saying
As for birthdate mine was born in March of 12

It sounds like at least three different shops, incl. your dealer, as well as yourself looked at your shocks on two separate occasions and saw leaking shocks. There is a difference between the collection of oil condensation, dust, dirt, moisture, etc. and leaking shocks. And all agreed to replace due to leaks.
