Default Got a nail in my Michelin tire??????

Wife wanted to go for a cruise today and noticed the DIC said right rear tire low pressure so I stopped at local Quick Trip to put some air in it but tire looked fine. Did put some in and when I inspected the tire just what I figured, saw a nail in the tire.

Took Vette back home, low tire pressure warning was gone, and parked it back in garage.

What is my next step, BIL owns local Goodyear Tire store and I can take it to him or do I go to local Michelin tire shop for repair or can it be repaired

Don't pull the nail out ! just go to the closest Discount Tire, it can be repaired as long as it's not close to the sidewall.

Your BiL might do it free. But I'd take it to wherever you bought the tires.

The tire has to be unmounted and the tire patched on the inside. It's just like patching any other tire ... nothing particularly special about it because it's on a Vette. Pretty sure it can be patched even if it's a runflat, but you didn't say whether it is or not.

As long as it's a inch away from the sidewall you should be fine. As others have stated, tire must be removed and patched from the inside. If you have a Discount Tire nearby, they will most likely do it for free.

lleave the nail in . I had one in mine and it lost 2 lbs a week . finally had it repaired and patched on the inside. It can be plugged but you lose your speed rating and if its not done right all kinds of bad stuff happens. Even if its done right your taking a chance . Best to have it patched from the inside.

Holes in Runflats can be patched exactly same way that NonRFs--meaning if the hole is reparable in a NonRF, the same hole in the same place is reparable in a RF. Depending on brand, there may be a very SMALL margin next to the tread edge that is less reparable.

In my experience, it has not made one whit of difference on the life of the tire (I don't track any of my cars). In fact, conservatively estimating, I probably have over a hundred K on patched (not simply plugged) tires.

I agree with the comment about leaving the screw in the tire and let them pull it out.

He will not charge me for this, trust me. Between personal vehicles and my company cars he does small stuff like this for no charge, However I do not go there looking for freebies BUT I do spend $10-15K in an average year with him and I am sure he will stick it in somewhere else

Tires were on care when I bought it, had 2-3K on them, I have the invoice in my file

Whatsa BIL?
My advice...do not ever take the nail/screw out of the tire. Let the tire shop do that...and soon.

I had a screw in my Summer only goodyears(non runflats) I left it in so the shop docent have to waste time looking for the hole.Took the wheel off brought it to my local guy, told him to plug it,he said20$ done!
Had no problems ,put another 10,000 mi on it.

There is some good info here.
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiret....jsp?techid=77

May or may not affect speed rating of tire depending on your view.

it does effect the speed rating. The tire is speed rated in accordance with the SAE method or ECE30 of ETRTO. The repair is not speed rated. If the tire has been speed rated tested with a repair by the tire manufacturer, then the manufacturer will state so (you can call them). The number of repairs and repair type/materials all play a role.

Ended up taking car to local Michelin dealer on advice of BIL, he said his shop could patch it but Michelin has a special patch for RF that if it were his he would do as well particularly since not that many miles on them

Went to local Michelin dealer and $25 and tire good as new

They treated you better than the Goodyear store treated me. I got a large screw in my RF original Goodyear Runflat tire and I jacked the car up at home, removed the tire and took it to the Goodyear store. They fixed it and charged me $47 for the repair. I didn't complain since that store was the only place I could find that would work on a Runflat tire! I had no idea it was so hard to get people to fix a Runflat tire (at least here where I live). We don't have a local Discount Tire Store unfortunately. I must have called six tire stores with no luck getting someone to patch my Runflat Goodyear tire. The Goodyear store that fixed it only had one man who worked on Runflat tires.
