Default Adding Z06 NPP mufflers to a base coupe?

I'm wanting to add NPP to my 2008 base coupe and came across a listing for Z06 NPP mufflers (no pipes) for pretty cheap. I know some welding is involved, but is this even advisable? Difficult to do? Thanks in advance...

all you need is some NPP mufflers and a NPP in a box kit. Run a vac line from the back of the intake to the rear of the car/npp kit and your mostly good to go. NPP in a box is a good mod for the NPP mufflers.

you will need to have the pipes from your stock mufflers coupled with a 2.5-3" reducer attached to your stock over axle pipes before they can be fitted to the zo6 mufflers..

That is what is needed and also the NPP in a box, I did an entire ZR1 setup from manifolds to the mufflers and it works like a champ

Cool! Any reason why you did the whole setup vs just replace the mufflers? Thanks!

First; NPP and Z06 mufflers are NOT the same.

The Z06 mufflers are a different design and use different size pipes and different tips. You can use the Z06 mufflers and tips by cutting your existing mufflers off and welding the Z06 mufflers to your existing 2.5" pipes. No need for a reducer, the Z06 mufflers have a 2.5" inlet just like the NPP.

Then call Sunset Orange Creations for an exhaust controller/vacuum line kit.

Yes, more HP, the Z06 and ZR1 us almost shorty headers and true 3" pipes all the way out back. I got a steal on a set, $300 for everything, oh gained 10 hp before tune, after tune and cold air up 20 hp.

We had the base mufflers, I put on some B&B Route 66 and Corsa Sports wife hated the sound in the Vette. So I took her for a ride in my buddies ZR1 and she said this is fine as it can be quiet and noisy when you want. So I got them from my buddy and he put on Fusions on his ZR1.

I just added the npp to my base without npp in a box. Right one it's on loud all the time. I have ran the vacuum line and have a 18 dollar manual vacuum line switch to add later

I don't have the exact info but beware the hangers may be different from 2009 on. Make sure you get the correct set, do a little more research here and you should be able to quickly figure out the break point for the different model years.

Simply the easy way with no other issues.

Spend an extra couple hundred dollars, pick up a full "manifolds back" Z06 system, and bolt it on. All GM parts, all bolts up, and you get 10-15 rwhp even without a tune. I picked up 8, primarily due to the retention of the added cats that are present on the '12-'13 cars since I didn't want to mess with the CA smog *****.

Install is here First page is the install, the last page or just prior is the dyno results. No 1/4 mile stuff for me. I only do road course time trials and lapping days.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'd prefer to BOLT rather than WELD. The performance boost would be a plus.

Questions:

1) Would there be model year issues like there are for the stock NPP systems? For base coupes I'm supposed to look for 2005-2008 models, since my coupe is an '08. So this means I'd be looking for a 2006-2008 Z06 setup?

2) Where would be the best place to find entire setups like this?

1) Sort of, but it's pretty straight forward

- You can use any year Z06 (2006-2013) or ZR1 (2009-2013) exhaust manifold. They are all the same and bolt right to the heads and any year cats.

- You can use any year Z06 (2006-2013) or ZR1 (2009-2013) mufflers. The only caveat is that the early Z06 mufflers (2006-2010) are quieter at WOT than the later Z06 or ZR1 mufflers. This is due to internal construction. You can tell the later mufflers by looking inside the exhaust tips. Early tips are smooth/solid inside while the later units are perforated. In my thread you can see inside the tips to see what I'm talking about. Regardless, any year Z muffler will bolt on to any year Z06 or ZR1 intermediate pipe..

- Cats and Intermediate pipe....You can use any combo of 2006-2011 Z06 or ZR1 cats and Intermediate pipes. They are identical and all bolt right on and work with any year exhaust manifold and any year muffler.......or.......you can use any combo of 2012-2013 cats and Intermediate pipe. They will also work with any manifold or muffler. You can NOT use 2006-2011 cats with a 2012-2013 Intermediate pipe or vice versa. The 2011 intermediate pipe (in conjunction with the 2006-2011 cats) is the most desirable since it's an "X" pipe vs the earlier "H" pipe. However, unless you plan on pushing 500+rwhp, you will notice 0 difference.

2) Almost weekly there are Z manifolds, Intermediate pipes, etc listed in the C6 For Sale section of the Forum and on the auction site (first letter E).

The only caveat is if you have an automatic transmission. Often times, the passenger side Z muffler over axle pipe (welded to the muffler body and is the pipe that connects to the Intermediate pipe) requires a little messaging to fit it around the transmission body and the fluid lines. Any competent exhaust shop can do that in 30 minutes if you don't want to take it on.

Are the hangers for the mufflers really different for 2005 - 2008 and 2009 - 2013?

Please confirm if anybody knows.

Thanks!

Thats what I did to mine worked like a champ. Muffler shop charged me $125 to do it. Put 2006 Z06 mufflers on my 2006 base.

Can anybody confirm if the hangers are different from 05-08 versus 09-13? Thank you so much! I heard that the exhaust sits higher on the 09-13?

Thanks!

I don't know what you mean by "hangers". The difference between the two systems is in the passenger side end of the mid pipe and the passenger side start of the overaxle pipe.

Thank you for your help. I mean the hangers where the mufflers are held onto the rear of the car. The hangers are inserted into the rubber grommets. Does that make sense? Are the hangers positioned differently from 05 - 08 versus 09 - 13?

I had Zo6 mufflers installed on my 2005 there is a problem if you have an auto the 3" pipe will not go by the trans. I had the zo6 mufflers cut and welded to my original Pipes cost me $175.00. They cut installed an adapter and welded. they are off a 2009 and fit great
