We can't use lifts?
I ordered my exhaust for my new Vette and can't wait for it arrive, and shot a text to my buddy to prep a lift for install once it comes in. Now I'm reading, and I'm getting the impression we can't simply throw these cars up on a hydraulic lift. I'm sure he doesn't have any specialized pucks, he mainly tunes imports. What's the real breakdown here?

Your rocker panels are fiberglass and can be damaged if you don't put the lift points directly on the frame, there are two openings on the bottom of each rocker panel to allow you access to the frame...the safest bet is to use lifting pucks...that way you will steer clear of contacting your rocker panels all together.

You can order specialized pucks that will insert into the holes in your frame where the rocker panels allow you access...many vendors sell them...worth the money, I still need to get me some!

If his lift has screw type rubber padded lifting points, just put those where you would put the jacking pucks.
Go buy some hockey pucks and use those.

I use http://www.reverselogic.us/shop.html...25&id=19583773 jacking pucks.
I have the white plastic spacer removed so I can snug it up against the chassiss and they stay right in place and don't budge.

Give this a quick read,

To put the car up on a lift, you use the shipping tie down area's/frame lifting areas as point out in blue. Also, since the frame is above the lower fiberglass, you need to use a spacer between the frame and the lifting arms, which is refereed to a lifting puck.
There are specialty pucks, such as this,

The home made pucks make out of Hockey pucks with O bolt to all them to be locked into the slots as shown above, as well as lifting pucks that will snap into the slots that you can leave in place. Some places do have the needed pucks, but not a bad idea to pick up/make a set and leave them in the car, just in case the car needs to be lifted at a shop that does not have the needed arm spacers (pucks).

Your rocker panels have cut-outs where the lifting points are on the frame rails(where the holes for the pucks go)as in Bugman's pic(in blue). You can simply use a piece of wood if you don't have a pucks,or some lifts already have rubber pads on them,or if the metal pad of the lift fits in that notch without touching the rocker panel, you wont even need anything.

Just a heads up of problems people have had with pucks on this forum in the past. Leave in place pucks have been known to rip off/bottom out going over driveway aprons, speed bumps etc. Hollow plastic ones have crushed and deformed under load. Something to keep in mind.

Yep. Very easy to lift. Just take a few precautions. Excellent info already posted. I have the leave in pucks and have not had a problem. But, I can see where they could get scrubbed off like mentioned above. You can store the pucks in the rear storage area and they will be ready to use when needed.

Most exhaust shops have a drive on lift available, no pucks needed. You might need some 2X6 or 2X8 planks to get clearance to drive on but exhaust is easy with a drive on lift.

Just buy a set you like, and leave them on (if leave-in) or in the cubby in the back. You never know when you might need them.
Cheap insurance, and I always leave them on the driver's seat EVERY time I leave the car for any service, no matter where that may be. I always tell them I prefer they use mine. So far, so good!

You can get rubber practice hockey pucks on the cheap.

Home depot has the rest of the needed parts.
As for drilling the center hole in the pucks, I cheat and do that on a lathe, as well as shorting the Eye outlets bolts so the don't protrude out the bottom.
To add, pick up a few extra pucks while you are at it. It nice to have the 4 eye outlets in the car if every needed, an extra one or two to use on a jack without the eyelet, and you will always find a use for an extra one.

My buddy says his lift has rubber padded feet, but I'm still going to grab the pucks. I would just go to a shop with a roll on but my friend let's be use his lift for free; full blown shop too not just a backyard rig.
