moving up from C4 to C6 which yrs to advoid?
I'm presently looking to move up from my current C4 6SP to a C6 AT but I need to know which year C6 to avoid purchasing. I like the 2008-2010 AT @ Z51 package between the $25-30k price range so then which years should I avoid purchasing? Also did the C6 2005-2006 have a lot of problems?
Thanks Boonie

Nothing wrong with that. There was a lot of hoopla early on which was dealt with by the original owners, and was hyped up beyond what the actual problems were, IMO. Apparently there is still a lot of unwarranted hoopla perpetuated by folks who don't have any first-hand experience.
If the car has more than just a few thousand miles on it, chances are any problems that might crop up due to 1st year-itis were already taken care of.
Go with the best deal you can manage (regardless of MY), but don't let the '05 scare you off, strictly because it's an '05.

I have a 2010 4 LT. Bought used. I don't think the leather dash is worth it. BTW it was replaced under warrantee. Just saying that if left in the sun it might be a problem. The 2010 has Blue tooth. Nice added feature but I replaced the ill regarded factory nav with a Kenwood DNX9990HD. It came with Bluetooth and a backup camera option. So maybe a 2LT would have made me just as happy. I don't think F55 is worth it. I can barely tell the difference, but I don't remember how it compares to the base suspension. NPP is essential! Especially to my neighbors. But I appreciate it too above 50 MPH.

I would start the search with the 07 model. first year for the radio controls on the steering wheel. anything that year or newer is good. mileage under 60-65K. should be able to find one for $25K or thereabouts. Dont be afraid to buy one far away. I found an 07 in Texas, bought it sight unseen, (had the dealer take lots of pictures), 2 months of cleaning, buffing, waxing resulted in 1st in class at the La Jolla Concours.

I just purchased my C6 on Saturday. First thing I did was decide on a color...or two that I wanted. Then what I needed vs wanted on the interior. Then I just started to look till I found one that matched my needs. Wound up with an 2007 AO coupe with only 10k miles on it. Looks new.
So deals are out there. Figure out the color you want. What the interior mods are you need and then start the search. Deals are out there just need to look.

newest clean well maintained that you like. that's the goal (at least was for me).. I added bluetooth (and audio streaming through the factory Nav via a plug and play kit from ISimple, cost was $99 i believe.. works awesome..
Mine is an '08 3LT with Magnetic ride control. I added NPP, used was around $450 + i added the $300 controller which allows loud and quiet modes as well as a user rpm open/close mode (where you set both if you like which is awesome for an automatic.
Most important to me was being maintained by a GM dealer, the same dealer in fact. I bought mine with 94k on it from original owner who upgraded to a C7.. Couldn't be happier with my decision. I replaced the headlight lenses and windshield, added a '12 alcantara steering wheel and gear shift ****, new lloyd mats, leather armrest, driver seat OEM bottom Foam only (as they get squashed even when only 20k miles on them lol).. A set of 1 7/8" headers GM Splash Guards and called it a day. Can't stress to you enough about the maintenance records.. making sure whatever broke was replaced with quality parts by a mechanic that knows.
Maintenance items i replaced were the F55 shocks (which i found on here for $600 shipped with only 10k miles on them from a Z06 a guy bought and put coilovers in and the Torque Tube which had a nearing problem, new from GM.. BUt the way i look at it is had i bought one wit say 60k miles on it, i would have paid 5k more and had 60k mile shocks and torque tube lol... what i have is an extremely clean well maintained 95k mile loaded LS3 C6 that from inside and out you'd be hard pressed to tell it has more than 20k on it..
If you buy a used C6 with anything more than 20-30k miles on it you will find plenty of flaws on the lenses and windshield, these cars take a beating due to their height. having said that, when you check any of them out, put the headlights on and look at the lenses and look at the windshield in direct sun light. Keep that in mind when making an offer. I personally couldn't deal with any imperfections in the windshield or lenses, or steering wheel for that matter, things i knew i would replace EVEN if i bought a lower mileage car.. Just my $.02 good luck with your purchase (hunt lol)
I have done that formula to the last several used hobby cars i purchased and each time i sold them i broke (and even made a few bucks on one of them after owning it for a year and a half) even which is saying ALOT in todays economic times!!
1. Lenses
2. Windshield
3. Steering wheel
4. Seat Foam bottom
Just plan on those if you buy over 25-30k mile car.. (if you want that new car feel/experience)

You'll likely discover that you'll have to decide between a lower-mileage, fully-optioned '06 or '07 and a higher-mileage, fewer options '08 +. At least that was what I found.
I could have had a 2LT '08 with 45K miles or a 3LT '06 with 8,750 miles for about the same money. Both were the Victory Red I had to have, but the '08 had the standard wheels and the '06 had the chrome. I went with the '06. Practically a brand new car, garage queen 1 owner with every option in the book including both tops, F55, etc. etc. I got this car 2 1/2 years ago and it's turned out to be the best car I've ever had. Not a bit of trouble whatsoever.
Do I wish I had that extra 36 hp the LS3 provides? Of course. I'm not going to lie. But all things considered, the 'mere' 400 hp in my LS2 is sufficient for my occasional straight line blasts, freeway entrances, and passing slower vehicles including those who want to pass me.
Whichever C6 you choose, you are in for a big treat, coming from the C4. Keep us posted.

It was fully loaded options wise and a Vert to boot. I would not sell it today to buy a newer C6. The car was/is perfect for me and the price was great. Even though I did end up modding a lot of other things on the car, I would have done that no matter what year I ended up with.

It's always nice to get all those additional add on items. Just an overall better value.

I drove an 05 and loved it. I bought an 06 automatic convertible and I love it to death. I would say there are no bad years. Would you rather get an 08 model, or drive an 05 that looks just as good and keep $5k in the bank? It is up to you.

I had an 05 and absolutely loved it. I would buy it back if I could find it (if its in the same shape). Great car. Only a couple of minor problems with it. Had 78k on it when I traded it.
Buy what you can afford.
