Default Looking for more sound...headers or exhaust? What would you do

Ive had my 2013 grand sport for 6 months now and I'm looking for it to be a little louder. It has the NPP now which is alright, but not loud enough.

Has anyone upgraded from the NPP exhaust to the corsa sport or extreme? Lots of threads with people talking about it, but they didnt have the NPP as a baseline (just the stock exhaust). I just want to know if its that much of a difference. Basically worth $1400 or not

Or would you just get a set of long tube headers. Is the sound difference there really? Is there really that much of a power increase or is that mostly from the tune? Anything I can tell in daily driving?

The car is a 13 so I worry about voiding the warranty. Anyone have any thoughts on if headers are pretty safe? I imagine is all in the tune.

Any input is appreciated!

I have NPP and put Longtubes (no cats) on a couple months ago. The sound difference is insane. It's a bit louder than stock in quiet mode, can't even hear it on the hwy at cruise. But open it up, and it sounds like Satan has a plumbing problem.

I'll probably put cats in eventually after I get everything done and get the tuning done. (I'm planing on using the rear O2 locations for widebands)

As far as gains, I went to the track before and after the headers, and picked up 3.5 tenths with no tune other than disabling the rear O2's and COT.Conditions were pretty similar.

get a set of long tubes w/catted xpipe. you will feel the difference in power and hear the difference in sound.

That's what I am going for! When you get a tune does it have to be a put it on the dyno type deal, or are handheld preprogrammed ones ok, or will tunes people do off computers alone enough?

I'm tuning it myself, but any reputable tuner should be fine, and at least one guy here has the Diablosport canned tune with his headers.

The answer to your question of long-tubes or headers is "yes."

Depends on if you want to try incremenetal changes first. If so, try the collars on the NPP from nakidparts (dot com) and set it so it's partially open all the time.

If all you want is "a little louder", go with different muffler. If you want the best if both worlds, go with headers and a tune. Several of us have went with headers and a tune recently, and kept the NPP . Search my recent posts, and you will learn more, to give you options to consider.

I am not sure how headers affect your warranty. I would check out B&B PRT Fusion exhaust. It is NPP on steroids. Also, check on the M2W switch. I got the dead pedal switch but leave it open all the time.

Thanks the the replies. I think I've had the exhaust open the entire time I've owned it...just not loud enough. I don't think the mild to wild switch would do anything more?

Throw a set of headers on there and the NPP will actually sound 100% better then it does in closed or open mode.

Long tubes for sure! I have kooks with no cats. Stock npp. My wife was pissed the first time I brought the car home at 2 in the morning and woke her and the kids! Sounds good though. But I do have a friend with long tubes and corsa I think sounds better. But if you can't do both defiantly long tubes. My 05 with just corsa had a good tone but was not that loud.

What about coated headers? Or wrapped? Or neither?

Ceramic coated or heat wrapped headers are supposed to keep it cooler I think. Maybe prevent rust? Looking into it no one recommends wrapping them though

Wideband sensors work best ahead of the cats.

Besides voiding warranty be aware of your state's smog regulations. Being in CA, headers and/or a tune were not in my cards - both illegal in my backwards state.

I first tried Corsa Sports, and they weren't loud enough. I swapped them out for Borla ATAKs and I'm happy in a pig in slop. Plenty loud under any pressure, you always know they're there until you get into 6th gear - then they purr like pussycats on the fwy.

Needless to say I'm happy. Would have loved both headers and a tune tho...
