Default No Radio Display?? Radio works, but can't see anything

I have an 09 with NAV, you can see the buttons on the left light up.

But the display is totally black.

Any suggestions?

Mine does that occasionally, especially when it's cold (~32 degrees). After a restart when the car has warmed up it always has come back.

There is a Factory Service Bulletin on this. Take it to the dealer and they will perform a firmware update on the NAV unit. Took my dealership 2 weeks to get the disc in though...

Temporarily you can try two things. First is to just turn off the radio and turn it back on. Second, if the first doesn't work, is to turn off the car, and then start the car again.

U.M.,

Would you happen to have the FSB number?

Sounds good, thanks for letting me know. Will get that done asap

I read somewhere on one of the posts to make sure the seatbelt is on before you start the car, so I tried that, it worked and has been working since (without seatbelt on)

The nav display can be turned off. Try pushing the top left button and saying "Screen Off". The result is what you describe. The problem is it doesn't know "Screen On". It stays black until you turn the car off, exit the car, close the door, open the door, and restart the car. Not only does the nav have a computer that can get confused but it also can be commanded by the BCM computer which can also become confused and then there is the serial communications link that can also introduce confusion.

Having the seatbelt fastened or unfastened has no more affect on this than first eating a carrot while putting your left index finger in your right ear.

Mine clears by just restarting the car.

I was thinking the same thing! But thought it was an easy thing to try, in case there was some stupid reason there was a connection.
