Default why not have a 427 corvette category

the z06 gets one, the zr1 gets one,,, the Grand sport is mixed in with standard corvettes AND IT has the SAME ENGINE etc.... the 427 shares alot from the mix SO WHY not have its seperation??? for sake the moderator on the 1/4 mile performance thinks the 427 is a Grand sport and wont be able to have a category for its Performance akcnowlegement...

Been discussed many times, the Mods and Admins have chimed in about the discussions and reasons IB and Admin's decided the 427 didn't qualify. You can PM a Mod and ask or maybe they'll repeat here again.

BTW, the 427 is a GS convertible with a Z06 drivetrain. Just like the old days of optional engines/trans in a common chassis.

If it is a drivetrain related issue, wouldn't it make sense to just refer to the Z06 section?

If it deals with body, then the standard C6 section with the GS.

Makes sense to me why they don't have a 427 section, just adds redundancy.

I AGree!!! and I have suggested it to be in the z06 discussion in order to benefit all the owners to learn on the drivetrain Issues and performance..... but IT was declined... so I guess Ill just secretly act as if I dont have an LS7 with the same clutch, tranny and rear as a Z06 and sneek on the z06 posts to learn from them to sort out technicall issues time to time...

I think it's a matter of volume to all large degree. Of the 215,000ish C6 Corvettes produced in total, only about 2,500 were 427 Convertibles.

I think you would be welcomed on both the C6 & C6 ZO6 forums with any tech questions.

BTW - The 427 Vert is a great ride !

Nicely said. I agree with you 100%.
BTW, you have a sweet ride. Do not see too many Z06s in Supersonic Blue. As a matter of fact, I've never seen one!
Enjoy!

2,552 427 Convertibles, but only 1 model year
4,684 ZR1s, 5 model years
27,997 Z06s. 8 model years

Geez, I really don't see the need for all the subcategories. From my guess about 75% of the posts apply to all models.

I find that statement as ignorant as saying the Z06 and ZR1 are the same because they share the same aluminum chassis.

I assume you're interested in the 1/4 mile performance posts.
The problem with a 427 category there, is that verts quicker than 13.5 aren't legal in stock form at NHRA or IHRA tracks. When you limit the possible 427 vert population to the small number of unsanctioned tracks, the value of comparison becomes worthless.

I believe they relaxed the rule for 2010 or newer to 11.50 on the verts (when they relaxed NO cage to 10.0 --(stock zr1 favors?!)

I'm mostly interested tech part of it.. it does have the z06 drive train Good and Bads(?) and zr1 stuff? .... see not sure BUT yes I agree JUST NOT enough of them AND FOR sure Ill be a VERY select few That will PUSH performance limits of it (very seldomly) .... SO i guess Ill just ride solo and re-search and I guess go into z06 tech to chime in and educate myself.....

Can't put it in the Z06 section, because still today after all these years, not one had done any documented Z06 times down a 1/4 mile or on a track..........all wax, no go.

I guess you could also have a Z51 section, but to be frank, I think there are enough sections now.

i AGRee theres enough sections... I asked for it merge with z since it shares complete drivetrain.. a z51 is an option... 427 is its own model Such as the z06 or zr1 ... I didnt make this up... chevrolet built it!!

Unless that was a recent 2014 rule change update, the verts remained at 13.5 without a rollbar. The change you may be referencing, was first in the 2013 rulebook and was limited to 2008 and newer unmodified coupes/hardtops. Due to the design, verts aren't real easy to make a rollbar fit without some serious body mods.

Just be happy that you found a track that will let you play without a rollbar.
