Not rare. My 2006 has Z51 and is an automatic.

But earlier models with the Z51 option package did have manual or automatic trannies, as previously noted above.

Nothing special at all. About 1/3 of all produced were Z51 when it was available and a high percentage were auto. According to some statistics only 40% of the Z51 optioned cars had manual transmissions meaning 60% were auto.

Be sure it's a Z51 by checking the build sticker inside the glovebox. A local used Corvette dealer in my area were advertising several cars as Z51's when in actuality they only had the brakes upgraded to look like a Z51.

Looks like the 2013 427 Convertible is available only with a manual transmission, but it does not have the Z51 option.

That's correct, but the GS (Z16 option) uses the front/rear springs from the previous Z51 package. The build sheet for my 10 GS shows Z16, Z51 Sport Pkg and Z52 (the dry sump motor) options. I think the tranny cooler is probably also from the Z51 package but not sure if the Z51 had a diff. or P.S. cooler; that may just be in the Z52 option.

GS only cars ....
It may say "Z51" on the little sticker in the glove box of your GS, but it actually has the Z16 package (it will also say Z16 on that little sticker).
ALL GS cars came standard with the Z16 Performance Package ... all of them.
And the Z16 package included parts from the old Z51 option, the Z06 and 1 item unique to the GS Z16 package (see list of parts below).
So, it may say Z51 on that sticker, but it was not an option that you paid extra for, and it was not shown as an option on your "window sticker".
In other words, the Z51 option was NEVER available for any GS, and the Z16 Performance Package was standard equipment on all GS's (with a few variations for M6 coupes vs A6 coupes and convertables)

It was. Last year for C6 Z51 option was 2009. It became standard in 2010 on GS and the regular C6 could no longer get it.
The GS had the Z51 parts but had another code....can't remember what it was, I want to say Z16 for some reason. But that is likely wrong.
Z51 was always available in automatic.
Add: I see others said Z16 so....
