I've been reading through the forums and finding people saying their c6 is running around 190-200 oil temp/coolant on hot days. I'm in San Diego, it was 74 today. I noticed my oil temp at 230-237, coolant around 210-219. Didn't get above 3k rpm, and it was all city driving Should I be worried about anything?

I got the car in May, and was planning on supercharging it next month. I figured supercharging it, may make it run hotter. Just want to get the problem fixed before doing any work to it, if there is a problem...

If I could get an answer, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks...

Not sure if the oil temp is too high but as far as coolant temp, we had the same air temps here this weekend and my car was around 198-200 when moving for a while and around 210-212 with stop and go driving.

my oil temp gets into the 210-220 range after highway driving but idling around at low rpm? should be lower. Coolant temps never above 200. sorry, get that checked out.

then again i have a 160 t-stat, i'm sure that changes things lol

You may want to get underneath the car and check for debris on the radiator; dirt, grass, plastic bags, etc. Stuff can get up there since it's a bottom feeder. Good luck!

Crawled under it, and didn't find anything in the radiator area. May just be taking a trip to the dealer...

For stop & go city traffic on a warm day, after you have been running fairly constantly like that for over half an hour, those numbers would seem at the high end of normal to me. What kind of temps do you see on the highway? Does it cool down fairly quickly when you get an open stretch of road with no stopping for a while?

my vette regularly operates at 220-235 when fully warmed up. nothing wrong with it as far as I can tell, it does seem high, though.

The coolant temp doesn't look like a concern, but the oil temp is high imo. Unless it was really stop and go for more than 15 minutes, it seems high. 205-220 oil temp might be reasonable considering a 74 ambient temp if you were in stop and go traffic for a long time.

Couple things to check: do your fans(two) turn on when in that range? is the oil the proper oil weight for the car? is it auto or manual trans? and btw, were you running a/c?

It wasn't stop and go traffic, it was Downtown driving. Stop sign every block or two. My fans turn on around 225ish motor temp. When oil was at the 237, motor temp showed 220. With a/c on it hit 237, without a/c is was around 230. The oil is from the dealer. Have 20% left until oil change time. Was thinking about taking it to get it done tomorrow, just to see if it helped. It's a manual Trans.

I've never payed attention to it only the freeway honestly. I've just been researching supercharger lately, and am seeing people are running hot. So, the past two days I've been concentrating on oil and coolant temps. Have got on the freeway. But, motor temp is definitely cooler and the freeway. Just never noticed the oil temp or coolant temp. I will be doing a freeway run tomorrow. And yes, it does cool down fairly quickly when I get an open road.

I nearly soiled myself when I saw this temp, fortunately the coolant temp was not too high. Also, on the HUD I keep oil temp as my display and it was still not at the top of the range

Just make sure your oil is not low.How many miles does your car have? Take the top plastic radiator cover off. Clean your radiator between your ac radiator. This is where you will see alot of yard clipings. A little above 5 degrees cooler from cleaning all the mess from their.

I reached up in there and didn't feel anything. I'm going to take the cover off in a few. Car has 39k miles..

I have a 2011 GS convertible with 6 speed manual. 10K miles. On a typical Louisiana 80 F day, the coolant temp will be 195-200 F and the oil temp will run 225-235 F.

Your coolant temp seems higher than normal/typical. I would check with an IR gun to verify this reading. If correct, this can also cause the oil temp to run a bit higher.

I too see oil temps in the 220-235 range depending on outside temp. It can take a good 30-45 minutes to reach the high on the freeway with consistent crusing speeds.

Coolant temp 189-202 with 180* stat. Depending on rpm's. I do have 4:10 diff so the engine is running 300 rpm higher at same speed as 3:42 stock rear. The water pump is rpm sensitive.
These temps are in 70-100 degree heat. In winter 40*_60* heat the oil runs in the more like 215-225 degrees.

I don't watch the oil temp.
But from day 1, my 09 A6 runs those same coolant temps.
With 23K miles now, car runs 195 highway or near 200 when constantly moving in town or back roads.
Once the engine is Fully warmed up and being driven for a while, any stop and go will raise temps to 210 - 220 depending how long I'm stopped between getting moving again.
Fans come on about 220 and rarely goes higher than 220.
If and when it hits 220 and start constantly moving again, temp drops right down to 200 or less, even if only going 35 mph.
IMO, if these car's are not moving, the temps rise but should hold steady at some point around + - 220 once the fans come on.
Only time I've seen higher than 220 is when stuck in stop and crawl traffic on a Hot day and saw 225 but, did not go any higher.

My fans come on just above 200* coolant temp.

Fans coming on at 225 engine temp, if meaning oil, is useless. Fans help cool the coolant which in-turn takes heat out for the engine.

Where does the OP's fans come on regarding coolant temp?
