Flywheel to rear wheel hp/tq loss between m6, a6
I've spoken with many corvette owners in reference to the percentage loss from the flywheel to the rear wheels horsepower between an A6 and the M6. Everyone has a different percentage/numbers. Does anyone in the forum can educate me on this? Been through 6-7 pages and could not find a thread on this subject.

In spite of the links above, most C6 owners, right or wrong, are saying manual C6s have about a 15% loss, automatics about an 18% loss.

That's a big difference considering how many owners spend hundreds to GAIN 12 HP!

LS2 and LS3 both seem to have about a 10HP difference between Manual and Auto.
No %, just 10HP. Think of the A6 as a pump circulating fluid thru a convertor, clutches and a radiator, it takes 10 HP to drive the pump.

How about some common sense? IT's NOT a PERCENTAGE! It takes XX HP to move the car, whether that XX HP comes from a 1,000HP Supercharged LS3 or from a 400HP LS2. The driveline loss is fixed and stays the same regardless of the motor HP.
The A6 takes about 10 HP to run the pumps and gears. It doesn't matter if the engine is producing 1,000HP or 400 HP, the A6 still needs 10HP.
The Manual trans works much the same way, The clutch and transmission don't use or need extra HP from a higher HP motor.
Somewhere around 60HP loss for a Manual and 70HP loss for an Automatic.

Hey Chuck, had a choice between a LS3 A6 Z51 LT3 with NPP vs a LS3 M6 LT1; both 2010 with under 30,000 miles. I chose the A6. When I went to a performance shop to inquire about modifying my vette, he stated, among other things, that I should have bought the m6 because 20- 22% hp loss with the a6. Everyone I spoke with had different opinions (numbers) on this issue, therefore I decided to ask the folks in the corvette forum.
Now I have a better understanding about this topic. :-)

The IRS hurts the car on the dyno.. the M6 vs A6 is a moot point due to the torque multiplication of the torque converter.. In these newer transmissions with 6+ gears an auto almost ALWAYS beats the manual.. unless you're abnormally good at rowing the gears and keeping the car from spinning up in the almost useless 1st gear lol

An additional factor to include for chassis dyno differences is that M6 cars dyno in 4th gear (1.00 to 1 ratio) while 4th gear in a A6 is 1.15 to 1. If using 5th in the A6 to lock up the converter the ratio drops to .85 to 1.

I've never tried the paddle shift in the C6 Automatics. I guess I should try before commenting, but it would take LOTS to change me from Standard to Automatic Transmission. I've had many pre-C6 automatic Corvettes only to resell them shortly after owning. I just can't do Automatics!
