Default Considering an 05 C6

Right now I have a 98 c5 but I'm looking to upgrade to a c6. I live in the Boston area. I found an 05 for a good price I think (around 19k) the only problem is it has 106k miles. According to the previous owner this was a Florida car and all the miles were highway miles down in FL. Should I be worried about the amount of miles? Will there be a lot of extra regular maintenance because of the miles and should I expect to have to have a lot of repair bills assuming only regular maintenance has been done? What should I check on the car to see if it's in good shape and has been cared for? Thank you in advance for any advice!

I've had my '05 since new & it's been great. That said, 106K is pretty high mileage (mine has 40K). It seems to me that with a bit of searching, you should be able to find an '05 or '06 with considerably less mileage.

05 is the best Vette I've had. Turning 150,000 miles this month.

I think what is more important than the actual mileage is how the car was cared for and maintained. If the owner has all the service records and there is good evidence to support the car was well cared for, the mileage wouldn't bother me. The drivetrain in these cars is extremely reliable, and there are quite a few driving around with well over 200K on the clock.
Good luck with your decision!

Thanks....I have found others with half the miles for around 22-24k...truth be told the one with 106k has a lot of add ons that I would like to do anyway (factory carbon fiber zr1 ground kit, CAI, LT headers and so on). I really like the car I just don't know if the miles are no big deal since they're highway miles or if I'll probably have some major repairs in a few years because of too many miles.

I picked my 05 up last year but when I bought it, there was only 14k miles on it. Buying a car with high mileage is always a roll of the dice. You could get another 100k miles with no issues or have issues every time you turn around.

That said, low miles does not guarantee you will not have issues either. I looked at a lot of Vettes when I was searching. I looked at one with under 20k miles but it had been beat on pretty bad. The paint looked good but the interior was rough and the engine was in bad shape. You just never know.

If the car comes with service documentation that shows regular oil changes, coolant changes, hydraulic fluid changes, wheel alignments, and general service and upkeep, it's a good indication that it was pretty well cared for. If there is nothing but a few invoices for aftermarket parts, I'd be deeply concerned.
In any case, it's always a good idea to have an experienced Corvette mechanic look the car over (and under). Do a compression test, inspect the brakes, and suspension. Check for alignment issues. Run a CARFAX report and check for accidents, etc. Yes, it will cost you a little money, but nothing compared to what it will cost if you buy a worn out car.

I'd look for one with less miles on it.

I bought a pristine 2000 C5 with 21000 miles. Within a year the insurance had to pay over 3k for computer replacement.

My 07 has 138,000 miles with only 2 trips to shop for repair.

Just goes to show that you never know. Especially us here on the forum who have never seen the car. Take it to a trusted mechanic.

I bought my 06 back in July with only 12,500 on the clock. I'd look around a little if I were you. Just my 2 cents.

To be honest, most sellers say highway miles. Some people (like myself) truthfully do drive mostly highway miles but some you never know. It seems like this car was also modified so you never know how it was treated.
