Default Good Deal?

Might be able to nail down a 2005 C6 3lt/z51 for $25,500 w/ 25k miles…my question is; do I hold out for a 07/08 but probably spend at least $5k more or pounce on this beauty?

Persoanlly I think that is a couple Gs high. I'd pay more for the 08. You can get them for under $30k as well, so you might pay another $3k over that particular car... unless you pay too much for the 08 of course. I say skip anything under 08. First year for the LS3 and the T6060 is you go manual trans.

The miles are low but it is an 05. I would look for something newer with higher miles

Two assumptions...it is a 1SB (not 3LT), and it is a coupe. Having said that, in my neighborhood (WA) $25k for that car with 25k miles is an OK deal...for both the buyer and the seller.
Just sayin...

1SB, but what other options? Premium color? Nav? Wheels? Tires? XM? Lots of extra cost over the 1SB to make an '05 worth $25,000.

I would stay with the C6 generation.

The interior of the C6 is worth the extra 2k.

Pounce. That's a great price for a low mileage, high option car.

That's a great price. All the problems with 05's people who don't have them claim, is BS; the same can be said then for the 08's and problems, they(08s) were the first year for a lot of things too, thus are capable of having many problems/bugs as well

If 30HP and having a car with 75K+ on the clock is worth it by all means go for an 08.

The Z is cool, but the C5 is very dated and the ride quality in a C6 is so much better. I have a lower mileage 05 and love it. Zero problems.

The only downside to the 05s is the doughboy steering wheel. If that doesn't bother you, then it's not much of a downside now is it?

That's a fair price for a low millage 05, If it has the color and equipment you want, go for it.

I don't see the fuss on the 05 steering wheel. I think it looks sharp. I think the 06+ ones look tacky with the large silver plastic strips on it.

I think it's a great deal for low miles and lots of options. I'd take it.

The only reason it would bother me is no steering wheel controls.

I've read a lot about these supposed problems…weak differential (how hard would you have to tromp it to actually ruin that?), targa top, having to put it in reverse before you park it, low-beam problem which they don't have a fix for yet, etc...are there any other "major" problems I should know about?

You say the Z is cool, I can handle the interior being a little dated, but what about the ride feel? I have driven the 05 and thought it was very nice, but I've heard the 04' Z is visceral in comparison, better first gear, seeming more torque…any thoughts?

Almost don't want to answer this thread and put the "wammy" on my poor old 05 that people stay away from like the plague apparently, has been flawless since I bought it this time last year. There were no outstanding recalls or TSB's on it when I bought it so maybe the previous owner had to deal with the problems I've never seen. Just waiting for the headlight recall fix to hit the dealers.

M6, Z51, 3LT, Clear Targa, Preferred Equipment group, cargo shade...with 27K on it really spectacular one owner garage queen. Paid 28K out the door which was $2K less than their supposed "rock bottom" internet price. They said they'd rather hold it through winter and mark it up $2K in spring and get it. I said see ya I've got other Vettes to look at today and was out the door when surprise surprise they called me back in before I could leave and they accepted my offer...and made money I'm sure and I'm not loosing sleep over the deal.

OP Yours sounds like a fair deal too.

'05, no '08, no '05, no '08, over again...

Yo OP, your best rule to guide you through the maze of opinions, is to always purchase the very latest model year, with the color and options you want, that you can safely afford.

The 'vette improves in one way or another with each succeeding model year.
By purchasing the most current year you can afford, you'll never go wrong.

Oh, btw, there is no charge for this wisdom.
