Really want a C6, but...
I'm thinking about moving into a C6. The thing is this, the only ones I could really get into right now are going to be '05-'07's, maybe an '08. Either way, these are going to have some miles on it, think high 60's to low '80's. The car would be my daily and only car. Live in Houston, so snow and ice not really an issue. What do you think?

I would personally wait and save some more money for a lower mile car if it's going to be your daily driver. Also, if money is an issue and this car will be your daily driver, these cars can be expensive to repair and the probability of repairs increases with more miles.
If I had to stretch my budget to have one of these cars (especially a used one with no warranty) I wouldn't have one. JMO

I have been daily driving it all year. Im kind of a grampa in disguise (...even though Im 26) and I have thoroughly enjoyed driving it every day. Comfortable for daily driving and long commutes.
My c6 has had no significant troubles. I had a worn wire under my seat for the airbags which was an easy fix, my reverse lights dont always work...But beyond that it has been rock solid. I autox the car several times a year with a codriver so it certainly gets abused. Parts are a bit more expensive (tires, brakes, etc) but I wouldnt be turned off by an ls2 car.

I bought a low mile 2000 C5. Nothing but problems within a year. Thank goodness for insurance.
My 07 has 138,000 and is my daily driver. Been very reliable so far. 07 seems to be a pretty good year for the LS2.

I agree. Age hurts a car as much as miles. Many things deteriorate with age including rubber, seals, gaskets, plastic and etc. A car that sits for a long period of time seems to have more problems than ones driven daily.

Bought my 06 MN6 Z51 vert last March for $29,000 with 23,000 miles. Only problem was 3 months ago harmonic balancer took a dump costs $800.00 to replace. Vettes are a bit higher priced here in FL, especially verts.

Both the LS2 and LS3's are good, reliable engines if not beat to death. Living in Houston I would not worry about a C6 as a daily driver. I have a friend who had a black '07 coupe. She put nearly 200k on it before parting with it for another one ('13). She lives in the DFW Metroplex and is a marketer, so she drives a lot obviously.

The C6 makes for a nice DD, I've been enjoying mine for a few years. It's mostly been all trouble-free miles, though you need to have money for maintenance and odds are something unplanned will come up. It's best if you're set up for doing repairs yourself. In three years of ownership, the only repair over and above regular maintenance was a fuel pump at 33Kmiles, which is not bad, but factor in that the pump cost over $2K to replace at a shop.

For example, there are a couple around here that look interesting. There is an '06 manual, with 75K going for mid $20's, also an '07 auto supposedly Z51, 88K for $21K, an '05 Vert 41K for $25 and 05 coupe with 25K going for $25K, (the carfax reports minor accident repair a few years ago, as well as electronic service, (dead battery syndrome car?)
For about the same money I can get into a 2012 or so Camaro SS, 2ss with 25-35K miles. I know for reliability, warranty, and such, this would be the smarter choice...but...not a Corvette.
BTW, I drove my '96 LT4 as a daily for five years. Owned it 8 years and put 140K miles on it myself. I know about maintenance.
I do agree with newer higher miles over older lower miles to a point. Really depends on how it was cared for.

With your background with the '95 you shouldn't hesitate to find a nice clean example and make it your driver. They are such a blast to drive and overall more reliable than anything else offering anywhere near the same performance for the money.

With the C7's out, now is the time to find a very low mileage one owner C-6 vet that someone is selling to make way for a C-7 to take up garage space instead.
You can hold off on buying a C-6, but will end up being harder and harder to find a one owner, low mileage as the time passes.
Note, lower the mileage, less mileage likely that someone has been pounding on the car instead. At 70K, may be a second or third owner car, and God only knows how well they kept the car up even if you do pull up the GM service report history.
As for the other side of that coin, if you are looking for a DD that you are just going to rack up high mileage yourself, then a low mileage garage queen may not be what you are looking for.

All depends on your budget....
When I was in college, I desperately wanted a Corvette, unfortunately that didn't seem realistic unless it had extremely high mileage. I ended up buying a C5 with 145K miles... enjoyed it for a year with no issues and made money when I sold it.
Point being a high mileage car can still be reliable. Just be willing to do your homework and be willing to walk away on the first few you look at if they don't check out.

I'm not sure what prices you are seeing for higher mileage Vettes but even if they are $18 to $25k, that's a lot of cash for a car with high miles. You can buy a brand new car off the showroom floor with 0 miles for the same money. The Corvette is a great car but you are paying a premium for the image. Wait for a low mileage garage queen if you have to have one.
