Default NPP Muflers

Can you buy new NPP Mufflers to replace the stock 2007 Mufflers? If so, where can you buy them?

Best place is here on the forum in the for sale thread. That is where I got mine ($600 - $700). Since we both have the base model, which has 2 1/5 inch pipes (Z6 has 3 inch pipes), it is more beneficial to find a set that bolts up just like stock. You start cutting and welding and resale for your car can be affected.

I have a set of Zo6 mufflers with the mod done. A muffler shop could cut and attach to any C6 for about $250.00 These are in great shape great tips I am asking $300.00 for the pair. If you would like to call me I will explain. This is the cheapest way to go and they sound as good or better than NPP. these are Bi mode. Thanks Bill 215-499-0242

There are two variations. NPP and bimode. Bimode came on the Z06. The difference is the amount of direct flow when the valve opens.

Can I ask what is your point. Again these have the Mod done and sound Great. All I am saying these will fit on any C6 and sound and work the same as NPP for less money?

Early Z06 = 3" pipes, needs muffler mod to get "full" sound when "open"
2009-2013 ZR1/ Late Z06 = 3"
2008-2013 Base/GS NPP = 2.5"

From what I have been able to determine, the NPP & ZR1 mufflers are the same with the exception of the 2.5" vs 3.0" pipes; the early Z06 mufflers are different in that they are louder when closed and quieter when open compared to the NPP/ZR1/Late Z06 mufflers. Hence the "Z06 Muffler Mod".

Another consideration is the angle change for 2009+ muffler pipe on the passenger side. Since your car is '07, this is applicable to you. If you buy a system from an '09+, you will need to have an exhaust shop bend/fit the pipe to attach to your stock H/X-pipe. Alternatively, you can get an H/X-pipe to match the later year muffler pipes or cut/weld the old pipes to the new muffler.

If you car is an automatic, the 3" pipe on the passenger side will not fit around the transmission if you find Z06/ZR1 mufflers as opposed to NPP.

Whew, now you need a controller for the actuators. There is "NPP in a box" (you want this, not Mild2Wild), or the Sunset Orange Creations retrofit kit. Personally I think the Sunset Orange kit is better (no drilling into storage compartment), but it is almost twice as expensive.

My car is an automatic. Based on the information provided, looks like I would need to find an NPP from a 2008 model year car, which would bolt up directly to my 2007 stock pipes. 2009+ would require additional work and maybe cutting and welding. Is this correct?

Please understand The Zo6 with mod done is the same or better than the NPP. The mufflers I have are from a Z06 with the mod done They are mint with 6" of tail pipe left. You take these to a muffler shop have your muffler cut and have them make a 3" adapter and either use clamps or weld. You could pay $800.00 for a nice NPP and make sure of the year. Please do not listen to people who are not sure what they are talking about. Again this is the cheapest and best way to go. If you want to call me feel free. Bill 215-499-0242

yes.

OR, get a 09+ midpipe too and its bolt on again

I know there are people who did it otherwise but most (including me) would take off midpipe first, swap out mufflers, put back midpipe, connect all, align, tighten.
I would not want to do it without a lift, then its easy, on jack stands, not for me.

Thanks to everyone for your input. I think I am just going to keep my stock set up. I learned my lesson when I spent money on a Corsa Sport Exhaust System for my 2001 C5. Sounded ok but after awhile I questioned why I spent all that money. In fact I lost 2 mpg after the Corsa X-Pipe and Sport Exhaust system were installed. Corsa claims an increase in mileage because of better flow. That is BS. If I did go the upgrade route on my 2007, I would stick with the factory set up. That means I would have to find a 2008 NPP, buy a controller for the actuators and the labor for removal of the old system and installation of the new system.

The difference is the midpipe. Don't try to mix and match 2008 with later parts.

Buy the midpipe and mufflers from any 2008-2011 base or 2010-2011 GS and they will bolt up without issue. The controller is a couple hundred bucks and installation of the whole thing is 4-6 hours.

If you want 10-15 rwhp, buy a complete Z system from the manifolds back.

2006-2010 Z06 mufflers are quieter unless you do the "muffler mod" on them
2011-2013 Z06 and 2010-2013 ZR1 mufflers are the same internally as the NPP mufflers. These mufflers have perforations inside the tips. The early years do not.

The only caveat is that 2012-2013 cats require a 2012-2013 intermediate pipe. You can not bolt early cats to a later intermediate pipe or vice versa. The exhaust manifolds and mufflers will work with either Z set up.

To bolt on the Z system, go to my thread here

Rick don't get discouraged with all the feedback.
I actually had 4 different exhausts on my '06, and by far the NPP was the best upgrade.

I started with the factory exhaust that came on the car - painfully quiet...

The I went to a Magnaflow - nice, a little more rumble, but still not perfect...

Then I put on an '08 NPP with the Mild to Wild - close to perfect.
Nice rumble for blasting around town, but on the highway you hit the magic button and it's nice and quiet to listen to the radio or carry on a conversation...

Then just before I traded the car in, I got greedy for 'more' and I put on a Billy Boat Fusion.
Same dual mode principle as the NPP, but the 'quiet' side was almost as loud as the 'loud' side on the NPP. I really didn't care for it.
It would have come off if I hadn't traded the car...

So my advice - Find you a nice used '08 NPP - direct bolt on - add the Mild to Wild and you'll never look back!
Check ebay or the Forum 'for sale' section. You should be able to do the whole thing for under $1,000 including M2W and install...

Good luck - geo
