Yep, wide tires and water on the roadway can cause trouble for us.

I may have gotten a little froggy with the skinny pedal.

I'm just thankful I was able to control it after I realized that the back end wanted to lead. On the other hand.... If I was going for a J turn, it would have been a 10/10!

Glad it turned out alright.

I was driving home in the rain one day and entered a 90 degree left turn on surface streets at a green light. I went in quick, but not too fast for even the rain, but coming out I gave a squirt to the throttle a little too early and she stepped out just a bit. There was a curb calling my name. Fortunately I didn't get that close to it and continued my drive home with the reminder of just how easily it can happen.

Since then I've noticed that a 50% worn set of GY RF F1 tires will not grip the road above 65 mph with the rain I was in. So I slowed to 60

I now have my A/S tires mounted and all is well again in cold and wet land.

Haha that's awesome. I think the combination of some Continentals (came with the car), slightly lower temperatures (low 60's) and the rain was a perfect storm.

Yes, it's a good thing you came out all right. BTW, what's the age and miles on your tires?

Fronts were changed when some guy hit me in April so about 7 months and 7,000-8,000 miles. Rears are a little older (they came with the car, but with good tread). They're the Continental Extreme Contact DW's, so they actually have a pretty cool "D" and "W" embossed in the tread that lets you know if it's still safe for dry or wet.

It really was just my own stupid fault. I'm usually able to control the slides, just got away from me this time. Won't be doing that again in the wet anytime soon. ALMOST makes me second guess my Diablo that arrived yesterday

Glad it turned out alright.

I don't drive mine in the rain, only because I can't drive it the way I want to.

If you were on Goodyears I could easily understand. I owned a 1998 Coupe and a 2002 Convertible with the stock GY runflats and both were scary in the rain. Scary to the point they felt unsafe at almost any speed on wet roads.

My current 2013 came with Michelin runflats which feel very competent on wet roads or in the rain. My biggest gripe now (in the rain) is that it doesn't take much rain or traffic over spray on the freeway to literally blind your vision no matter what the wipers are set on -- this was a problem with the other vettes also. Although I normally don't drive in the rain, sometimes on trips it unavoidable.

I have no experience with Continentals on vettes, but it sounds like they have wet traction issues also.

got stuck yesterday 100 miles from home. started raining so no
choice. First time on the Michelins Run Flats. Will say they were
better than the stock GY but several time got a little fish tail.

It really depended on the road asphalt. If new and rough, good, but on
some back road where smoother and turning with little throttle they
slid some. On dips where water pooled got a slight hydro.
When had a short stretch of 4 lane and 75mph, could not accelerate
fast as needed to blend in. had to coast the shoulder till a break
in traffic.

Lots of power and light, wet roads are not there best driving
environment.

Have you tried Rain-X? It will make a big difference in visibility, especially in heavy rain.

Hey Mr. Bullet, after you complete that Diablo tune, how about starting a thread relating your experience, and your opinion with regards to whether you feel it's worth the expense/effort.

I'd be interested, thanks.

I run my Michelin's in all kinds of hazardous weather.
Never an issue with traction.
My Corvette is my work car and it gets me there rain, sleet or snow.
I am sure you guys already know the car is well balanced.
So, I am thinking, if your car is losing traction, maybe take some of that money and get new tires and problem solved.

Rain + Corvette is at best NOT GOOD.....sometimes unavoidable of course.....I took delivery of my brand new 2005 C6 in April of 05 at the Museum...wonderful experience, and then had to drive her home in horrific pouring rain, all the way to Pa for two days!) Took me two days to clean it up, ( road spray, dead worms, you name it ) UGH!
Say nothing about performance issues......

I have the michelin pilot super sports (Z06/GS sizes) and they are amazing in the rain. The only time I lose grip around a corner is when I push it and all four tires lose grip at the same time (rear end does not step out)

I think any run-flat tire is going to have a hard time in the rain due to the stiff sidewall.

I have owned two previous vettes and both were very scary in the rain.
17/18 Kumhos on the 97 coupe and 18/19 GY runflats on the 2007 Z06.
Previous Trans am with Goodyear F1 eagles was also a bear in the rain.
